Acrylic painting of Aunt Jean and Chris by Cass Grange

May 2026

Greetings!

This graduation season, let's talk about one most flexible tools in family financial planning.

Every spring, the caps fly and the cameras flash, and for a moment, the world feels full of possibility. Whether your child is finishing high school and heading off to college, graduating from trade school, or walking across a stage for a graduate degree, this season has a way of making you think about all the decisions that led here ... and the ones still ahead.

One of those decisions, for many families, involves a question that quietly lingers in the back of their minds: Did we save enough? And did we save it in the right place?

Conversations for Families

Graduation parties and family get-togethers are loud and wonderful. But somewhere between the food, the cake and the photos, try slipping one of these into the conversation:

1. "If someone handed you $10,000 right now and you couldn't spend it on anything fun, what would you do with it?" Gets them thinking about goals, priorities, and what "smart" looks like to them.

2. "What's something you wish someone had taught you sooner?" Opens the door to real conversation about school, skills, money, life. Adults love answering this one too.

3. "If you could apprentice with anyone in the world for a year, no degree required, who would it be?" Reveals what they're actually drawn to, often more honestly than "what do you want to be when you grow up."

4. "What does your dream Tuesday look like?" Not the vacation, not the big moment, the ordinary day. It's a surprisingly revealing question about what kind of life they're really building toward.

5. "Is there something you'd love to learn how to do that you just haven't made time for yet?" Warm, low-stakes, and often leads somewhere unexpected. And quietly, it reminds everyone that learning doesn't stop at graduation.

Watercolor Wins!

Congratulations to Harper Poore, a member of the Class of 2026 and graduate of McNeil High School. Harper, the daughter of Megan and Creed Poore, spent all four years of high school serving as an athletic trainer for the football and baseball teams. This fall, she will attend University of Arkansas, where she plans to major in business. This summer, Harper is working at JuiceLand, spending time with friends, and enjoying plenty of swimming before beginning her next adventure.
