Dear Artisans,

We have an unprecedented deal on only 30 bottles of cult winemaker Bibi Graetz's glorious flagship Testamatta, plus 8 magnums of his 2010 Soffocone.

Bibi Graetz is a maverick, rebellious winemaker who owns one of the most prestigious wineries in Tuscany.

Today, the Bibi Graetz estate holds one of the largest assemblages of old vineyards in Tuscany, and its great Tuscan wines are sought after among wine collectors worldwide.

For those unfamiliar, Testamatta is the piece de resistance of elite Tuscan superstar, Bibi Graetz. Stylistically, this is somewhere in between Fontodi's Flaccianello and Isole e Olena's Cepparello, but uniquely 'all Bibi' for sure

"Testa-Matta” in Italy is someone with a strong personality, a distinctive style and positive attitude and creativity. No other name could describe better Bibi.

Considered one of Italy's most ingenious winemakers, Bibi Graetz is considered the ultimate amalgamation of a modernist / traditionalist winemaker. As a second-generation artist whose family home lies in the hills of Fiesole just outside of Florence, his family had always cultivated vines and grown grapes to be sold to other notable producers around them. In the mid-1990s, after developing a growing reputation as an artist in and around Florence, Bibi began to study oenology, then soon after decided to take a shot at crafting his own wine from his family's estate. The rest, as they say, is history.

Within a couple of years, Bibi Graetz became one of the hottest names in winemaking out of Tuscany. His flagship Super Tuscan wine, "Testamatta", regularly makes the annual Top 100 lists of various fine wine publications. A Super Tuscan made with 100% Sangiovese from old vines, this wine is the result of the combination of tradition and creativity, elevating the idea of Tuscan Sangiovese and bringing the word “Super Tuscan” to the next level.

So take your wine consumption to the next level and order one of these limited treats today - you'll be glad you did!

Ciao,

—James Tran

2020 Bibi Graetz "Testamatta" Toscana Rosso IGT

97 Points - Decanter:

"Wild roses and wild strawberries, the nose has a lovely fragrance and expression. Lifted and bright, this has such a beautiful delicacy to it, a creamy, chalkiness comes from the fine tannins with bright, succulent strawberry and raspberry leaf elements. You feel the savoury side too, the sweet vanilla spice and dried herb aspect which counter the fruit and the high acidity. I adore the finesse here, the sharp fruit giving the energy and the chalky texture giving the layers. Feels well controlled, powerful yet delivered with poise. It doesn't have so much overt weight, it's definitely more ethereal in terms of density, but the nuance of flavour is thrillingly captivating and this has a long lifted finish. A contemplative wine that keeps you wanting more and more. Made in new winery facilities in Fiesole." - Georgina Hindle (Aug 2022)

97 Points - Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux:

Gloriously jewel-like in colour, understated joyful frame flowing with juicy black cherry, raspberry, mandarin peel, fresh acidities and bounce. Everything feels in high definition, continuing the evolution of Testamatta from its earliest years. Softly brushed tannins that are barely there, extremely easy to recommend, you are going to want to share this wine."

96 Points - The Wine Independent (Lisa Perrotti-Brown, former Wine Advocate Editor):

"The name of this Bibi Graetz Testamatta 2020 means ‘crazy head’, perhaps referring to Bibi’s passionate pursuit of old vine Sangiovese. This wine is a clear, transparent, ruby color and has a very appealing nose of delicate, pure, red fruits like red cherry and wild strawberries wrapped in spice and light salty notes from sea breezes. The nose is charming and alluring. On the palate it is very Burgundy-like in weight and texture with a fine silkiness to the texture but it has very Sangiovese-like tannins. The wine is round and silky with a juicy freshness and fine but firm, savory tannins that linger with bitter cherry and sea salt flavors to the finish. A graceful and characterful version of Sangiovese. Drink 2023-2038." - Susan Hulme (Jan 2023)

  • 100% Sangiovese from 80-year-old vines, selected from the best 6 vineyards of the winery: Vincigliata, Olmo, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena. Each vineyard, divided in parcels, is harvested up to 8 times, making sure all the grapes are picked at the perfect ripening point.

  • Natural yeasts, manual punch downs, 10 days maceration and barrel ageing with no new oak.

  • 13% ABV

  • Drink now - 2040
