College hosts fifth annual Spay Day for community cats

Veterinary students were provided with a hands-on clinical opportunity on February 17. 50 cats, belonging to members of the community, received spay/neuter services at Cornell. The free, student-run event was made possible from generous contributions by the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association, as well as support from AKC Reunite, Hill’s, Purina, and Zoetis.

Filament formation enables cancer cells’ glutamine addiction

In a study published in the journal Nature Communications, scientists detail how multi-enzyme structures, called filaments, are instrumental in fueling cancer activity. Blocking the formation of these filaments may offer new ways to control cancer cell proliferation.

Tiny but mighty: babies use their immune system differently but efficiently

A discovery, made by Dr. Brian Rudd, associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the CUCVM, and Andrew Grimson, professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the College of Arts and Sciences, will help clarify why adults and infants respond differently to infections, and pave the way for controlling T cells’ behavior for therapeutic applications.

Dr. Gary Koretzky ’78, receives lifetime achievement award

Dr. Gary Koretzky ’78, is the recipient of the 2024 American Association of Immunologists (AAI) Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor bestowed by the AAI Council. Dr. Koretzky holds a joint-appointment as professor of immunology at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at CUCVM and professor of medicine at Weill Cornell Medical. He is the first Cornell faculty member to receive this distinction.
