Church Family,
This Sunday, we are excited to celebrate and bless our 5th grade class as they move from Kids Ministry to Genesis Middle School Ministry! Over the years, they have built a strong foundation of faith, formed friendships that will support and encourage them through Student Ministry, and shared so many fun memories along the way.
I have full confidence that this class will do amazing things in our student ministry and church community in the years ahead. Congratulations, 5th grade class! We will miss you in Kids Ministry, we are so proud of you, and we can’t wait to see where your faith journey takes you next.
The 5th grade blessing will take place during the 10:30 a.m. service.

"The Spirit Among Us" This Sunday: “In the Waiting: The Spirit Forms Us”
Acts 1:6-14
During the month of May, you have an invitation to rediscover the Holy Spirit—not as a distant idea, but as God’s living presence moving in and among us right now. What if the Spirit is closer than you think? Perhaps the Spirit of God is already opening your eyes in uncertainty, accompanying you in ordinary days, shaping you in seasons of waiting, and nudging you toward a life of courage and purpose. Over four weeks; through Scripture, prayer, and real stories from our community, we’ll explore where the Lord’s Spirit is already at work and how we might begin to notice, trust, and follow.
Sunday, May 17 Services at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.
Childcare available.
Livestream at 10:30 a.m.

Adult Education class led by Dr. John Walton
Sunday, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. in Stewart Hall
We’re delighted to welcome Dr. John H. Walton, Professor of Old Testament Emeritus at Wheaton College, for a special two-week Adult Education series. A widely respected biblical scholar and author of more than 30 books, Dr. Walton is known for helping readers see Scripture through the lens of the ancient Near East—bringing fresh depth and clarity to familiar texts. His engaging teaching style and passion for making the Old Testament accessible and meaningful promise a rich and thought-provoking experience. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to learn from one of today’s leading voices in biblical interpretation.
This Sunday: Much of the Old Testament is taken up with Bible stories. Christians who grew up in the church were exposed to these as children. But perhaps we have never thought deeply about how these stories function as the Word of God. Many people assume that the characters are supposed to be role models for us. We will explore this idea and consider the implications of the insight that the narrator, not the characters, carry the authority of inspiration. Based on those ideas, we will talk about what we are supposed to do with all the different sorts of passages that we encounter in the Old Testament.

Serve at The Bridge
On Tuesday, May 19, we will be the host team at The Bridge, a 20-year mission project in Chicago, now supported by First Pres. The Bridge is a weekly worship service for people who are coming out of incarceration, addiction, or the street lifestyle.
What we do:
- Travel to 1443 Roosevelt at Ashland in Chicago, carpooling from First Pres around 5:30 p.m. to arrive at 6:30 (or you can drive on your own)
- Short training/update session, and welcome of our guests (some of whom will be new to The Bridge that night)
- Participate in their worship service, then serve guests a wholesome meal that may be their best (or only) one of the day
- Clean-up and return home around 9:30 p.m. This will be an unforgettable experience!
For details on this service opportunity or to let us know you’ll be attending, contact the church office at office@firstpreswheaton.org.
