Saint Celebrated Today

Saint Athanasius had Trebizond for his homeland. He first entered the monastic life on the mountain called Kymaeos or Kyminas, which is in Mysia of Bithynia, then he went to Mount Athos and founded a large monastery, which is known as the Great Lavra. He became so renowned for his virtue that from Rome, Calabria, Georgia, and elsewhere, rulers, men of wealth and nobility, abbots, and even bishops came to him and to continue click here

Light a Virtual Candle

Did you know that you can light a Virtual Candle from your computer?

YOU CAN!!!

Simply click on the picture and you will be taken to our website where you can light virtual candles. There are 3 easy steps:

Take your computer mouse over the candles on the table.
Click on a candle to pick it up and bring it the the virtual flame.
Light your candle and hover over the candlestand until the base is highlighted, click on your mouse and the candle will be placed in the virtual sand!

We thank the Library/Museum Committee for overseeing the setup of the online program and of course the Internet Ministries Department of the Archdiocese who is able to make this happen!

GROWING OUR SACRAMENTAL FAMILY – Our Cathedral Family will be growing with the upcoming Chrismation Service for Jake DeLuca. The Chrismation Service will take place on Sunday, July 19 during the Divine Liturgy (immediately prior to Holy Communion). We ask that all Parish Family members be with us on this day to witness, pray and welcome Jake who will be a full member of the Orthodox Faith!

SAINT PAISIOS SHOWING IN MUSEUM LIBRARY– There will be 2 showings every Friday, with a matinee at 12pm and an evening showing at 6pm. Come see the Greek television show, which will have English subtitles.

GARDENING MINISTRY - The next Gardening Ministry session will be held on July 30 at 5:30pm.

PROSPHORA – We invite you to be a provider of prosphora to be used for The Divine Liturgy. We use 5 loaves on average for each Sunday Divine Liturgy. We appreciate your help with this special offering. Please click here to learn how to bake this beautiful offering.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - The Families in Transition (FIT) Soup Kitchen serve hundreds of families and individuals in the community who need help. The Assumption Parish has requested to help on the 4th Sunday of every month. Anyone who is 16 or order can volunteer to help! If you are passionate about making a difference in your community, there is no better time than right now to join our volunteer team! On the third Sunday of June our Nation celebrates Father's Day. Many may celebrate it with BBQ's, enjoying the day with loved ones, remembering those who have fallen asleep, but there is something important HOW the day should begin!

Did you ever wonder why this day, Mother's Day, the changing of the clocks all happy on a Sunday and not another day of the week?

And what is the GREATEST title any man can be given on earth?

Main Sermon 6/14/26

As Jesus walks along the Sea of Galilee, He sees Peter and Andrew casting their nets into the sea and then sees James and John mending their nets with their father. To each of them He extends the same call: "Follow Me." What is remarkable is how they respond. The Gospel tells us that they immediately left their nets and followed Him. No excuses. No delays.

The same can be said about the Saints we celebrate today, Prophet Elisha and St. Methodios Pat. of Constantinople.

Bread has been the emblem of God’s providence for us, throughout humanity’s history. Both physical (bread as food) and spiritual - the επιούσιον (epiousion) or “supersubstantial” bread of the Lord’s prayer, the bread of Holy Communion.

In the Orthodox Christian church, the pinnacle of our worship is union with Christ, both spiritually but also physically, by consuming the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since the Last Supper, before every Divine Liturgy, one or more of the faithful prepare and bring bread to church to be used as the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. The Orthodox church is liturgical. For those of us who bake prosphoro, the liturgy begins as we prepare to bake!

Prosphoro is an offering to God, made from His material gifts to us, and prepared lovingly and prayerfully.
