Mission statement: Seek others in our community, Serve their needs, Grow in the love of Christ, and Connect with each other | |
Pastors Points
Hopefully you know by now that this Sunday is an unusual and exciting day here at FUMC:
- worship at 8:15 and 11:15 in the Sanctuary
- a Chipotle style meal in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30
- finally in Kobler Hall, putting together 10,000+ meals for Rise Against Hunger.
I am SO looking forward to bringing the whole church together for worship and fellowship in the morning, then serving together to feed children all around the world!
Each of these activities are a reflection of the goodness of our abundant God who provides more than we often acknowledge or see. In coming together for worship, we might see folks we don't know because we usually attend different worship services, thus reminding us that our church is bigger than we often remember. In sharing in the meal, we are not only fellowshipping together, but we will be eating a meal that mirrors what we will be packing in the afternoon, reminding us of the privilege the majority of us live in by being food secure. In working side by side packing meal after meal, we are reminded that God has given us the privilege of being a part of God's provision for those who are less privileged as we are.
Sunday's scripture is John's recounting of the feeding of the 5000. The one where a young boy gives up what he has so God can multiply his meager offering into something far greater. By us being here Sunday, God takes our offerings of time and treasure, and transforms it to feed thousands, while also changing us and reminding us that God uses us and what we give to bless the world.
I look forward to seeing you and serving with you on Sunday.
In Christ,
Pastor Tim

Pantry Praise! We give a huge shout-out to the following people/teams for their help at the Food Pantry recently!
1. Holly Suwannakam and Becky Patrick in their collaboration to find several "preschool dads" who are enthusiastic to help unloading and stocking the Food Pantry deliveries on Wednesdays. This help has been sorely needed. Thank you Ladies!
2. A BIG THANK YOU to the person who gave a very generous donation for diapers for the pantry…these are in very high demand and will be much appreciated!
3. Another BIG THANKS to all the folks who helped us do a “pack & stack” to give us a surplus inventory of TEFAP boxes. While delivery and prep work was involved the day before, they packed and stacked 96 boxes in 30 minutes!! These packing angels are:
Heather & Robert Mason, Sean & AJ Staton, Sarah & Emily Wright, Tonya & Jacob Powell
4. And this Saturday, a group of our youth and parents not only handled our food distribution to 36 clients, but also packed 100 boxes!! They went way beyond the call of duty and you are welcome back anytime. Please thank the following folks when you see them: Claire Boetig, Audrey Boetig, Cora Boetig, Mathew Puckett, Ella Puckett, Devin Rodriquez, Jennifer & Ryan Boetig
As always, we'd love to see you there! Lots of shifts to cover! Click on the graphic to sign up! Super easy and a great way to serve our community!

Children's Sabbath 10/20
This year children's sabbath service will be held on October 20th during all three services. We
are looking for children to volunteer to help during those services. For those of you who are new and may not know what children's sabbath is, it's a time for the children to run the service. A
time to hear their voices and see the gifts God has given them. The children will run all three
services so there will not be Sunday school on that day.
Click on the graphic and find a spot for your kiddo to plug in and use their gifts!

Baptism in the River! We are excited to receive one of our joining members, Michael Layne, through the sacrament of baptism, and we invite you to come to the river and celebrate a baptism then bring food for your family and share in an impromptu picnic with our pastors! We will meet on Saturday, October 5, 2024, around 11:30 at Old Mill Park. Upon entering the park, take a left and park by the pavilion. We'll share in Michael's baptism, then return to the pavilion to share in fellowship and food. If you've never experienced a river baptism, it's amazing.

TAKE NOTE of these "I'd love to help" spots for the Bazaar! |
Is baking your gift? Bazaar Crafters is looking for a few good bakers to provide yummy baked goods for the bake sale table! Cookies, cakes, bars, pies, jam & jellies—if it’s delicious, we’d love to offer it for sale.
There will be a plant table at the bazaar this year. If gardening is your gift, please consider transplanting as you thin your garden this fall. Please provide the name of your plant as well as any particular knowledge about it—how much sun it likes, etc.
We're also looking for a few good cooks to feed the workers. Could you make a pot of soup, or a salad, and some sandwiches? This will help keep the bazaar workers healthy and energized so that they can make those sales on November 8 & 9. If cooking is your gift, please consider contributing to the bazaar in this way.
For any of these opportunities contact Sherry Hession (hessioncl@gmail.com) or Mona Lamb (mamalamb49@gmail.com) to sign up.

GREEN TIPS
Easy things to do to be better Caretakers of God’s Creation!!.
Last year Americans went through about 50 billion plastic water bottles. Most of them ended up in landfills or in our streams, rivers, and oceans, or along our highways. Fill up a reusable water bottle at home and bring it with you. If you don’t like the taste of tap water, get a filter.
