CAIR Victory vs DeSantis, Hate Crime Victories

Scroll Below

History reminds us that injustice never lasts forever. Evil rulers fall. Oppression fades, truth rises, and those who stand for justice are honored.

Allah reminds us:

Say ˹O Prophet,˺ “O Allah! Lord over all authorities! You give authority to whoever You please and remove it from who You please; You honor whomever You please and disgrace whom You please—all good is in Your Hands. Surely You ˹alone˺ are Most Capable of everything.

— (Surah Ali 'Imran 3:26)

1. Federal Court Blocks DeSantis Executive Order

A federal court has issued an injunction blocking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s “blatantly unconstitutional” executive order targeting pro-Palestinian advocacy.

As we warned Governor DeSantis, no politician has the right to unilaterally label Americans “terrorists” or punish them for exercising their First Amendment rights and criticizing U.S. foreign policy.

With support from Americans of all backgrounds, CAIR will continue to act as a shield—protecting our community from discrimination while defending free speech and religious liberty for all, insha’Allah.

2. Hate Crime Conviction in Lombard

Justice was served in DuPage County, where a Lombard man was convicted after threatening to shoot two Muslim men in a hate-motivated attack.

CAIR-Chicago had called for a hate crime charge and now welcomes the conviction as an important step toward accountability and safety for Muslim communities.

Hate crimes cannot be tolerated, and we will continue to ensure victims have the legal support they need—get help at: www.cairchicago.org/report-discrimination

3. Pilsen Hate Crime Attacker Charged & Sentenced

Another act of anti-Muslim violence has resulted in charges and sentencing after an individual vandalized a Palestinian mural and violently assaulted a community member in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood.

Danielle Wasserman had escaped to NY and allegedly attempted to escape to Israel.

Given slow initial response, CAIR-Chicago persisted in demanding accountability alongside community advocates, organizers, & alderpersons, culminating in this HUGE win—Danielle Wasserman remains in custody following hate crime charges.

These outcomes reinforce that attacks targeting our communities will not go unanswered.

4. AIPAC Candidate Dan Crenshaw Loses Primary — Israel-First Politician Out of Congress

Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a prominent AIPAC-backed, Israel-first politician, has been defeated in his primary and will be leaving Congress.

Crenshaw was widely criticized by civil liberties advocates and anti-war activists for his unwavering support of policies that prioritized foreign interests over the rights and concerns of American constituents.

His defeat signals a growing shift among voters demanding accountability and a foreign policy grounded in human rights and justice.

Across the country, communities are making it clear: elected officials must represent the interests and values of the American people.

5. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem Removed

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has been removed from her position following mounting criticism over aggressive immigration enforcement policies.

Advocates say these policies caused irreparable harm to immigrant families, including devastating enforcement actions that tore apart communities in Chicago and across the country.

We call for further accountability for officials responsible for these harmful policies, including "Border Czar" Tom Homan, Gregory Bovino (under investigation for alleged antisemitism), and AG Pam Bondi (recently subpoenaed in Epstein probe).

A project by CAIR-Chicago — the Chicago United Families Coalition (CUFC.us) continues working to reunite families impacted by Operation Midway Blitz and vows to fight for protecting immigrant families.

6. Public Opinion Shifts: Americans FINALLY Sympathize More with Palestinians

A historic poll shows a major shift in American public opinion.

For the first time in 25 years of Gallup polling, more Americans say they sympathize with Palestinians than Israelis.

CAIR has called on Congress to listen to the American people and align U.S. policy with the values of human rights and justice.
