SIX WOMEN SAVING THE WORLD

Inspiration this week comes from six women. (And it is difficult to narrow it down to six – we are surrounded by heroes!) The first is Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow, who delivered a righteous barnburner of a speech (listen to it HERE) defending LGBTQ+ kids and calling out Republicans for fundraising off of hatred that endangers the lives of children. This is the courage and passion we need right now – this fire lights the way forward!   The second is Patti Crane, Executive Director of the brand new Grassroots Messaging Works, whose mission is taking back our national story. She is a brilliant leader who is now harnessing her 30 years of experience as CEO of her own marketing company in order to create powerful, effective messaging that moves people, and moves the needle. In her words: We the People are democracy’s most powerful force. Together, we can protect our country from dangerous authoritarians, re-energize pro-democracy voters, and elect officials who serve all of us. We are incredibly honored that Patti is a longstanding member of the Field Team 6 Volunteer Steering Committee, where her messaging continues to inform every social media storm, every newsletter, and everything we do.   The third is our own Textbanking Czar Deb Verla, who is a true force of nature! Today and tomorrow, she is running a super fast Spoke Rewired text bank to 90,000 eligible voters who are likely Democrats in North Carolina! Join HERE – it’s all hands on deck. In addition to this, Deb is also our Social Storm Czar, part of our Volunteer Steering Committee, and so much more!   The fourth and fifth are two anonymous donors who have enabled us to throw another double-header textbank next week – in which we will contact 90,000 women in Pennsylvania’s swing House districts, in order to register them to vote as Democrats. And that is why we win.

SUNDAY, APRIL 24: TAKING IT TO THE STATES! Field Team 6 and partner Democratic Volunteer Center (DVC) are co-hosting an incredibly important webinar on Sunday, April 24 at 1p PT. The topic: how to beat back Republican attempts to use GOP-led state legislatures to subvert free and fair elections. Attacks on the freedom to vote, and on our ability to freely and fairly count those votes, have dramatically increased in the past year, largely via anti-voter laws passed by GOP-controlled statehouses. These laws seek to limit every aspect of voting, including voter registration, early and absentee voting, and even ballot counting. Experts have also suggested that a fringe legal theory known as the independent state legislature doctrine, which is now appearing in briefs submitted to the Supreme Court, could lead to a subversion of the will of the voters in the 2024 presidential election. In this talk, Daniel Squadron of The States Project discusses the crucial role of state majorities in creating election law, the critical need to elect pro-democracy candidates to statehouses, and the key target states to focus on for 2022 and 2024. WEDNESDAY, APRIL 27: SOCIAL MEDIA STORM Ahoy, Stormers! We've got some incredible news, and a bit of a heads-up on a small change to our methodic madness. First off, last week we created nearly 56 million impressions on Twitter alone! That makes an amazing 10 weeks in a row with over 50 million impressions! Epic! So, what's changing? Well, to help even more people get involved (and because you asked for it) we've split our Social Storms into two sessions this week. We'll do one for those who are old hands at the social storming game and another for those new to the scene. Thanks to two incredible donors, we are able to hold this super fast text bank using the Spoke Rewired platform, and our must-reach goal is texting 90K Pennsylvanian women before the 5/2 voter registration deadline for the 5/17 primary! You'll be reaching out to get women registered as Democrats, or signed up to vote from home (vote by mail). Women tend to vote more than men, and tend to register as Democrats at higher rates too. AND to multiply the good we're doing, we're texting into swing House district 1 to flip it blue, and districts 7, 8 and 17 to keep them blue! Please RSVP HERE. VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: ELIANA SIROTA

This week we’re wooting our appreciation of amazing volunteer Eliana Sirota! (that's her on the right, with the pink hair). Eliana's involvement in Field Team 6 is a family affair. She found out about Field Team 6 from her mom who phone banks to Spanish speakers in swing states. After learning about our work registering Democrats, Eliana started phonebanking and textbanking and now she has taken on the crucial job of running our Instagram account! Eliana says, "I’m an activist because I have to be if I want the world to be a safer place." She's working specifically with Field Team 6 "because all the causes I’m passionate about, like a woman’s right to bodily autonomy, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and the basic expectation of not having neo-Nazis in positions of power can’t be fought for or maintained with Republicans in office."  She also works for the Trevor Project, the world's largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for LGBTQ+ youth. Eliana lives in NYC and, luckily for us, she's taking a gap year, traveling to and working on different farms throughout the country through World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. As for college? "I’ll be going to Smith College in Northampton this fall." Eliana is a huge fan of the color pink and out of all the songs in the world, says, "Wouldn’t it Be Nice" by the Beach Boys and "Getting Ready to Get Down" by Josh Ritter get me the most pumped." Maybe that's her secret for having the energy to save the world on a daily basis! Thank you, Eliana, for making the FT6 Instagram account fun, helpful, interactive, and relevant, and for everything you do to make the world a safer place for all! Our Voter Drive in a Box Box is not just metaphorical... it’s an actual box filled with everything a first-time drive leader needs to host their own voter drive: clipboards, pens, forms, stickers, and more – for up to 8 volunteers! To achieve our goal of mailing one of these state-specific goodie boxes—for free!—to every volunteer who signs up to lead their first voter drive, we're looking for people to Adopt-a-Box.
