Orlin & Cohen’s resident black diamond champion and fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon, Dr. John Feder, weighs in with tips to help you stay free of injury: - Condition your body: Strengthen your core and legs with plyometric and agility exercises. - Practice small jumps first: Get your landings down to protect against ACL injuries. - Don’t stand up to fall: Follow your body’s momentum to fall safely. - Wear a properly fitted helmet: Head injuries make up 20% of skiing and snowboarding injuries. - Combat altitude sickness: Rest, hydration, and ibuprofen can help mitigate symptoms. - Keep ski bindings low: Doing so allows your boots to release quickly and can prevent ACL tears. - UV protection is essential: Wear sunscreen on exposed skin, SPF lip protection, and UV goggles. - Avoid frostbite: Dress in layers and heed warning signs like tingling and numbness.
