Bolsa Grande High School Celebrate Seniors at College Signing

Celebrating the Class of 2026! GGUSD has officially kicked off its #GGUSDCollegeSigning events, recognizing college-bound seniors as they take the next exciting step toward their futures. Congratulations to this incredible group of Matadors and all GGUSD students committing to colleges and universities!

GGUSD students graduate prepared for success, with thousands participating in Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses each year — earning valuable college credits while still in high school.

GGUSD Awarded 'Best Communities for Music Education' Award

For the 8th year in a row, GGUSD has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education Award! This national recognition celebrates districts that go above and beyond to provide equitable, high-quality music education for all students. GGUSD is proud to be one of only 8 districts in Orange County—and just 38 statewide—to receive this distinction in 2026. This award reflects the dedication of our educators, students, families, and community. It also highlights GGUSD’s robust Visual and Performing Arts programs and the Board of Education’s longstanding commitment to ensuring all students have access to enriching arts education.

Garden Grove City Council Honors Santiago High School Cheer Team

The Garden Grove City Council recently recognized the outstanding Santiago High School Cheer Team for earning the CIF Division 4 Coed Championship title after delivering a powerful routine that showcased their athleticism, focus, and teamwork under pressure. The team continued their success at the national level in February, finishing 5th overall and bringing home another well-deserved trophy. Beyond their competitive achievements, Santiago Cheer is known for being positive leaders on campus who bring energy and spirit to school events and the entire community.

GGUSD Latinos Unidos Hosts Cultural Night

The GGUSD Latinos Unidos Cultural Night lit up the campus at Los Amigos High School last Friday, bringing together students, families, and staff from across the district for an unforgettable evening!

With Latinos Unidos chapters represented from elementary, intermediate, and high schools across GGUSD, the event was a vibrant celebration of culture, unity, and pride. Performances by students of all ages filled the night with energy and talent—showcasing everything from traditional dance to modern performances that had the crowd cheering! The evening also featured hands-on activities and incredible food that highlighted the richness and diversity of our community.

Board of Education President Bob Harden and Trustee Teri Rocco attended, showing their support for our students and this meaningful celebration. From start to finish, the energy was incredible—uplifting student voices, celebrating culture, and honoring the history that shapes our shared journey.

Irvine Intermediate Places First at MathCounts Competition

Congratulations to Irvine Intermediate School on earning 1st place overall at this weekend’s MATHCOUNTS competition hosted by the Vietnamese American Aerospace Professional Association (VAAPA)!

Competing against top students from across the region, Irvine Intermediate’s team demonstrated exceptional problem-solving skills, teamwork, and perseverance to secure the championship. Each member of the winning team received a trophy, medal, certificate, and a $100 award.

We are also proud that Bell and Fitz Intermediate Schools as well as sixth graders from Rosita and Eisenhower came together from different campuses and grade levels to form one team, persevering through many challenging math problems and earning an impressive 4th place out of 35 teams.

GGUSD Hosts a Successful Choose Wellness Event

What a fantastic evening at our Choose Wellness Education & Resource Fair at Fitz Intermediate Language Academy!

Families came together to enjoy a vibrant resource fair, meaningful workshops to support student and family mental health and well-being, awesome raffle prizes, and incredible student performances that truly showcased the talent across our district. From the energy of Eisenhower's Disney production, to the pride of Fitz Mariachi, to the beauty of Los Amigos Baile Folklórico—our students made the night unforgettable.

Rosita Elementary Welcomes Families to Campus for Open House

Rosita Elementary’s Open House was a beautiful celebration of community, learning, and legacy! Families enjoyed musical performances, classroom visits, raffle prizes, and delicious treats while connecting with teachers and staff.

A truly special highlight was welcoming the Palomino family as honored guests—three generations with deep roots right across the street from Rosita. As descendants of Frank and Irene Palomino, original plaintiffs in the landmark Mendez v. Westminster case, their presence was a powerful reminder of the courage that helped end school segregation in California and paved the way for Brown v. Board of Education.

Guests had the opportunity to meet the Palominos and learn more about the proposal to rename the school in their honor—an inspiring tribute to a family whose legacy continues to shape brighter futures for our students.

Board of Education President Bob Harden and Superintendent Gabriela Mafi who served as principal of Rosita more than 20 years ago also attended to show their continued support for our students and schools.

Morningside Elementary Hosts Luau Carnival

Morningside Elementary recently brought the community together for a fun-filled Luau Carnival celebration! Families and students enjoyed an evening packed with delicious food, exciting games, engaging activities, and lively performances that showcased culture and talent. Events like these help strengthen connections between school and home while creating lasting memories for the entire Morningside community. Thank you to all the staff, families, and volunteers who made this special event such a success!

Patton Elementary Hosts American Indian Heritage Night

Patton Elementary hosted an incredible American Indian Night, bringing families together to learn about Native American traditions and cultures. Attendees were treated to a mesmerizing dance performance that beautifully showcased the artistry and storytelling of Native American heritage.

His story began as a kindergartner in 1979, and today, he is an Assistant Principal at Rancho Alamitos—serving his 28th year in the very district that helped shape his path.

Gregg’s journey from student to leader is a powerful example of the lasting impact of GGUSD schools and the strong sense of community that connects generations. A proud product and employee of GGUSD, his dedication reflects the heart of our district.

Families had the opportunity to connect with teachers, explore student work, and experience the outstanding programs and opportunities that make La Quinta High School such a special place for students to learn and grow.

California Department of Education Honors GGUSD's California Distinguished Schools

GGUSD was proud to be part of a special celebration hosted by the California Department of Education at the Disneyland Hotel on Friday, April 24, 2026, recognizing 2026 CA Distinguished Schools, the state's top honor for academic excellence and closing the achievement gap.

At this event, GGUSD celebrated nine secondary schools earning the 2026 California Distinguished School honor—the highest number in district history, with 53% of eligible campuses receiving this top distinction. Notably, GGUSD earned more CA Distinguished School recognitions than any district in Orange County and earned the third highest number of recognitions across all of California! Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen also attended to show his support!

Congratulations to our incredible schools: Bell, Irvine, McGarvin, Ralston, Bolsa Grande, Los Amigos, La Quinta, Pacifica, and Santiago!

Tuesday, April 28, 2026, marks California School Bus Drivers Appreciation Day, and GGUSD is proud to honor the incredible men and women who ensure our students travel safely each day. Our school bus drivers — along with trainers, dispatchers, supervisors, and transportation staff — exemplify the care, skill, and dedication that define the Garden Grove Way. From the first morning pickup to the final drop-off, these heroes go above and beyond, setting a positive tone and creating lasting impressions on the lives of our students.

GGUSD has partnered with Varsity Tutors to offer FREE 24/7 live chat tutoring and one-hour tutoring sessions to support students in their academic success (Goal 1). The program is accessible from home through ClassLink using a district-provided device.
