About Charles McPherson
Charles McPherson’s professional career in jazz began 60+ years ago, at age 19. Performing with Charles Mingus from 1960 to 1972, McPherson has toured the U.S., Europe, Japan, Africa and South America with his own group and with such jazz greats as Barry Harris, Billy Eckstine, Lionel Hampton, Nat Adderly, James Moody, Dizzy Gillespie, and more.
Throughout his career, he has not merely remained true to his Bebop origins, but has expanded on them. As Stanley Crouch wrote in his New York Times article on McPherson, “he is a singular voice who has never sacrificed the fluidity of his melody making and is held in high esteem by musicians both long seasoned and young.”

About Del Mar's Incorporation
In 1959, after a vigorous debate over the merits of incorporating as a city, remaining under county government, or being annexed to the City of San Diego, Del Mar voters cast their ballots at a May 26, 1959 election. By a close vote (555-to-479), Del Mar chose incorporation, and the City of Del Mar officially came into being on July 15, 1959, when certification of the election was received by Secretary of State.
