Hull No. 1 Update

The first Viking 64 Sport Coupe is moving steadily through its early build stages. Created for a longtime Jefferson Beach Yacht Sales owner, hull No. 1 is on track for completion in early June. The 64 SC uses the same hull as the 64 Convertible, while the mechanical and bulkhead arrangements differ to accommodate the coupe design.

Inside the hull, the engineroom and forward bulkheads are in place – both resin-infused for strength and stability. In the lazarette, you can see the square fixture and aluminum plates used to install the foundation for the Seakeeper. The plates are bonded to the stringers with a methacrylate and fully encapsulated in fiberglass.

Even a fuel-tank install reflects the engineering, precision and craftsmanship behind every Viking. On the factory floor, our fiberglass team lowers a custom fiberglass tank into the hull. Its shape matches the hull bottom to maximize space. All tankage is resin-infused using specific fiberglass fabrics and end-grain balsa for stiffness, strength and weight savings. The 64 Sport Coupe carries three fuel tanks plus a water tank and a holding tank, all built in-house the Viking way. The fuel tanks are also built with fire-retardant resin.

The deckhouse, foredeck and cockpit are formed as one integrated mold. Above: The mold has been separated from the plug and lifted clear, revealing the complete geometry of the house, deck and cockpit. You can see the cockpit hatch gutter details and the mezzanine. Also note the open areas, where the removable mold surfaces used to produce the windshield details will be installed. The mold now moves into R&D for surface prep before entering fiberglass for full construction.

This is an early look at a sleek, versatile new model from Viking. The first boat will be a three-stateroom, galley-down design with a crossover forward VIP, built for an owner-operator who values comfort, speed, versatility and style. We’ll share more updates as hull No. 1 progresses through the build. And remember, this model can also be outfitted with a Palm Beach Towers tuna tower, becoming the 64 Sport Tower (ST).
