"D"ependability is a component of Park PRIDE that has been at the front of my mind this past month. With so many changes and challenges we have not seen before, our reliance on each other has been a necessity. From students collaborating in our distance learning environment to weekly meetings with district leadership to help make adaptations to our new reality, depending on one another has been an important practice.
In this newsletter, we are addressing some necessary changes as we continue in distance learning. We are hoping to continue to depend on our learning communities collective strength to successfully navigate these changes.
On Monday, our second day of professional development, our teachers will continue to plan our transition to distance learning.
We continue to thrive on your partnership and grace as we navigate this together. Thank you for all your efforts at home!

Class of 2020 Graduation Postponed to June 23 on Stadium Field

As the end of the school year nears and we continue in a distance learning environment, we realize that a decision about graduation is weighing heavily on the minds of seniors and their parents and guardians. As promised, school leaders are announcing a decision about graduation for the Class of 2020 today.
In the past two weeks school and district leaders have spent a large amount of time engaging students, parents, and guardians in focused conversations to uncover feelings about this important milestone, graduation traditions that are important to honor, and options that should be considered during these very unusual times.
We heard you!
The Graduation for the Class of 2020 that was originally scheduled for June 2 at 7:30 p.m. has been postponed to June 23 at 7:30 p.m., on the stadium field with a rain date of June 24.
This year's graduation will look different for both graduates and the audience as we modify the ceremony to comply with social distancing requirements. However, we will do our very best to stay true to the St. Louis Park High School graduation traditions.
We do understand that because of certain medical conditions, attending the graduation ceremony will not be possible for some family members. We will communicate options for you closer to the graduation ceremony.
Preparation for Graduation... Ms. Busse, Mr. Goggleye and Mr. Meyers will be personally delivering SLP Graduation stoles and Graduation Caps & Gowns May 26-May 29. Someone from the Student Office will reach out to you to let you know when they are coming! We miss you and we can't wait to help you get ready for graduation!
Additionally, we will be premiering the Virtual Celebration of the Class of 2020 on June 2 on YouTube. Students will be highlighted and receive their honors and family members can watch from the comfort of home at their convenience.

St. Louis Park High School has made the decision to issue Credit/No Credit grades for final 2nd Semester grades. The decision was made after considering all of our students' needs during this unprecedented and ever-changing time. The circumstances under which we are teaching and learning has created many barriers and disruptions for our students and teaching staff. Students continue to struggle to connect with digital content due to internet access and devices. Learning from home, even when connected, has caused challenges and stressful situations for both students and their families.
Credit/No Grade structure details:

Students will receive either a credit grade (CR) or No Grade (NG) for their Semester 2 final grade

Neither score (CR or NG) will be calculated into the student Grade Point Average (GPA)

The percentage score will be retained in our student record system, but not reported on transcripts
-
The 3rd Quarter grades are not reported, but will be stored in our student information system
The modified grading structure provides the most equitable way to assess students at this time. While researching the impact on post secondary plans, many institutions are also adjusting their student grading systems. We believe there will be minimal impact on students' future plans.

Per Minnesota Governor Walz, St. Louis Park High School will be concluding the 2019-2020 school year via distance learning. We acknowledge that some of our students' personal items remain at school. These personal and academic possessions may be located in hallway lockers, gym lockers, band/orchestra rooms, art/design rooms,
health office, etc. Additionally, many students have materials (library books, unused textbooks, school supplies like calculators, etc.) that need to and should be returned to the school. Please note, further communication regarding returning school-owned Chromebooks and currently used textbooks (when/where/how) will be sent separately in early May.
Seniors - This
will be your last chance
to retrieve any possessions left at school. Items not picked up on these scheduled dates will be donated or disposed of after May 18, 2020.
To observe social distancing standards and hygiene guidelines, each advisory will be assigned a time to come to the building (see below) and no more than 50 students will be allowed in the building at a time. Friday, May 15 will be used for make up times. Please wear masks, cover your cough, wash hands often and if you are sick, please stay home. District to Seek Interim High School Principal for 2020-21 School Year

On April 28, Superintendent Osei, District leaders and a group of more than 50 stakeholders conducted virtual second interviews with three candidates to become the new St. Louis Park High School Principal.
"After much consideration, I have made the decision to not move forward with any of the candidates that were interviewed ... and to restart the process for the high school principal position next spring," Superintendent Osei said. "Over the next couple of weeks, I will be working to find a leader to serve as an interim principal for the 2020-21 school year."
Superintendent Osei thanked stakeholders for their time, commitment to the school and it's students, and thoughtful and reflective feedback about the candidates.

to possess leadership attributes that resonate more broadly with our stakeholder groups. This will be critical as our next leader works to create the conditions necessary for each student to actualize our district mission
," Superintendent Osei said.

Anna Keith Named Athena Award Winner

St. Louis Park High School senior Anna Keith has been named the school's Athena Award winner for 2020. Keith earned a total of eight varsity letters during her high school career in four different sports including cross country, tennis, basketball and track and field. Read More

Support the Class of 2020

The St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation is launching a community-wide effort to celebrate our seniors. Show your Park Pride for the class of 2020 by planting a lawn sign in your front yard for all to see!
The Class of 2020 will finish its senior year at home, instead of cruising the halls with friends, attending prom, starring in one final performance or playing in one last game.
Your donation will help fund future innovative classroom grants for St. Louis Park students for years to come.

Show your support for the senior class of 2020 by purchasing a senior shirt in their honor! The shirts will be available at the STORiole's online store starting
Monday, May 4 through Monday, May 11
.
You can make donations in increments of $10.00. Our goal is to collect $3250.00 so every senior can have this shirt for graduation. We are encouraging community members, SLP staff, and parents to wear these shirts to support our seniors on graduation day.

Work Based Learning Opportunity
|
Class of 2021 Students and Parents/Guardians:
Something to consider for your senior year. We wanted to to let you know about an opportunity for students to get a head start on their potential future careers. If your son/daughter has any interest in the following fields this may be an opportunity for them: HVAC Technician, Warehouse, Customer Service.
A select number of students will be chosen to participate in a Work-Based Learning Opportunity with a company called GA Larson (Gustave A. Larson) Company for their Senior year of High School. Through this organization, students will have an opportunity to "Earn and Learn" in an internship position. Selected students will have the opportunity to receive industry training, work towards specialized credentials, receive an hourly wage, and receive high school credit(s) for their time worked.
If this sounds interesting to you, please register to find out more. GA Larson will be hosting two informational webinar sessions to provide more detail about the program and outline the next steps. Space will be limited and the application process will open immediately after the sessions, so REGISTER NOW.

Your student must contact Ms. King, Class of 2021 Counselor, if they are accepted into the internship program. Ms. King will need to enroll your student into our Internship course and possibly make a schedule change; allowing your student to leave school early for their internship.

be in good standing with their credits towards graduation
take a minimum of 5 classes each semester; the internship counts as 1 of the 5 course requirement

Financial Aid for Fall 2020

Attention Seniors
Your Financial Aid award package for the 2020-2021 academic year is based on financial information from 2018. If your family financial situation has changed since that time, we encourage you to contact your financial aid office for a Special or Unusual Circumstances appeal. All schools are required to have an appeals process and should be able to guide you through the paperwork you'll need to submit. Many schools have appeal information on their website, or you can always call the office or send an email for more personalized information and service. Considering that more students may need appeals now due to COVID-19, you'll want to start this process as early as you can and follow up immediately with any requests from your Financial Aid office.

Spanish Language and Culture Exam Information:
AP World Languages Exam App. Students taking a World Language exam must use this app on smartphones or tablets. This free app will be available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store the week of May 11. Students will receive an email from College Board when the app is available.

AP Exam Demo (available May 4) AP students should use the clickable exam demo to practice the different ways to submit their exam responses. The demo will help students confirm that their testing device will be able to access and run the online exam. If they can't access the demo, the final slide of the Testing Guide can help them troubleshoot. The sample content in the demo will be the same for all users and isn't a practice exam. Students will receive an email from College Board when the Exam Demo is available.

ACT/MCA/MAP Testing Updates

ACT Update
ACT Scores from the all Junior Class ACT
According to the directions given at the end of the ACT Exam, it takes 5-8 weeks before students can expect to get their score. To date, ACT has NOT announced any changes to this plan. Last year it was almost 8 weeks after testing before students started receiving scores via snail mail.
April 4, 2020 National ACT
Based on information from the ACT website, the April 4, 2020 National ACT has been postponed until June 13. Students who enrolled in that exam should be notified by ACT. Please contact ACT.org for more information.
MCA and MAP Update
All MCA and MAP tests that have not already taken place this year are cancelled.
Thank you to teachers who administered and students who took the MCA Science or MAP Reading on March 10 and 11, 2020. We were on track to have our best scores in five years. Well Done!

Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) is a program that allows 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students to earn both high school and college credit while still in high school, through enrollment in and successful completion of college-level, nonsectarian courses at eligible participating postsecondary institutions.

With school closures, we are all living in a time of uncertainty. Stress levels are rising not only for adults, but also for our kids and teens. Your Change to Chill and Health Powered Kids teams are here to support you through a Mental Health Virtual Care Package for students, teachers, and parents who are all adjusting to distance learning. In our care package you'll find activities for de-stressing that can be done as a class, as a family, one-on-one with a child or as an individual. We know our community can build resilience through stress prevention and reduction activities like physical activity, mindfulness and more to get through this challenging period.

- Parent/guardian will receive a certificate of attendance for attending the meeting

Spring Sports Cancelled - Refunds Being Processed
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL), under direction of the League's Board of Directors, has declared, effective immediately, all activities and athletics that occur during the spring season have been cancelled for the 2019-2020 school year. The decision of the MSHSL is aligned with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Minnesota Department of Health and is in support of practices that focus on community health and safety.
At the end of last week we began communicating out the process for requesting a refund for spring sports participation fees or the option of donating the fee to the District. In these uncharted times we all are currently operating in, we have made the decision to move forward and issue refunds to all registered participants without expecting families to request the refund. All credit card paid fees will be refunded by next Wednesday, May 6th. Any fees that were paid by check or cash will be refunded as soon as possible via a check from the District Office Business Department. If you paid by credit card and the card has been cancelled or changed please email Athletic Director Andy Ewald at
[email protected] as soon as possible so we can issue your refund by check.
Attention Athletes:
You have access to optional at-home strength & conditioning workouts through our TeamBuildr app. If you're having trouble logging in, please contact Coach Gust (
