The DECA STORiole, the school-based enterprise at St. Louis Park High School, was among 461 school-based enterprises achieving Gold-level recertification for the 2022-2023 school year and will be recognized during DECA’s International Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL.

What is Genesys Works?

Genesys Works is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for students to work in meaningful, paid internships at top Twin Cities corporations. They also provide free college, scholarship, and financial aid assistance during their senior year of high school.

What are the benefits of participating?

At Genesys Works your child can pursue opportunities and invest in their future. 

• It’s an opportunity to gain real-world skills like public speaking, Microsoft Office, business technology, teamwork, and more – and they’ll earn college credit! 
• It’s a paid corporate internship where students will work for 12 months at one of the top companies in the Twin Cities like 3M, Medtronic, Target, or Ameriprise Financial earning $16,000 their senior year! 
• It’s a plan for their future because they work 1:1 with students to create and implement their plan for what to do after they graduate high school
• It’s access to a long-lasting network because after they graduate high school, students will still have opportunities to enter internships, attend workshops, and build a network with Twin Cities professionals.

Who are they looking for?

They are seeking students who are interested in having a successful professional career and want to be exposed to a business environment before starting college. While their internships are technology and business focused, they do not require any prior knowledge of technology or business to be a part of the program, Genesys Works will teach participants everything they need to know.

SLPHS will follow a block schedule for March 1 & 2. On March 2, students in grade 9-11 will attend the College Fair during their designated time during the Park Connections block.

At the senior meeting on Feb. 15th,  all 12th graders heard about the opportunity to apply for local scholarships through the St Louis Park Dollars for Scholars program. 

Online applications must be completed in full by Thursday, March 9th at 3:30pm.

2023 Scholarship Instructions

As of this week we have a change to our 11th grade counseling position. This position was formerly held by Elise Boleman, and will now be filled jointly through the end of the year by Teresa Petta and Annie Schneider. This information has been sent out to all 11th grade students and their families.

Students with last names A thru N will work with Annie (she/her). Annie is a graduate student studying school counseling at the University of Minnesota (Go gophers!). She has been a counseling intern at St. Louis Park for the 2022-2023 school year working with the senior class and will also be completing her master’s degree this May.

Students with last names O thru Z will work with Teresa Petta (she/her). Teresa has 15 years of high school counseling experience. She joined the SLP assessment team at the start of the 2022-23 school year and works part time as the high school testing coordinator. Teresa enjoys working with students as they learn about themselves and explore their interests..

St. Louis Park High School Prides itself on creating a safe environment for all community members. This includes our campus parking lot. Please practice safe driving and remain aware of your surroundings.  Parents and caregivers, please make sure to use the front entrance (Door 1) area for all student pick up/drop off.  After school pick up is prohibited in the south lot in front of the athletic entrance (door 15). Use of this lot disrupts our ability to effectively transport students to athletic events and competitions because it causes congestion and buses cannot pass through.

Reminder to all students driving to school you must have your parking pass clearly displayed in your vehicle to park in the student parking lot and must park in student park designated spots only or you may be towed. Small lot near door 1 and first row next to 33rd street is visitor and staff parking only.  Street parking is available two blocks away from the school if you do not have a school parking permit.

Next week we will be starting to ticket and/or tow vehicles parked illegally.

As a reminder: to ensure student safety and security, the SLPHS Front Office will ask parents and caregivers to show an ID when they arrive to check a student out early from school or access student information. The ID needs to match one of the approved contacts on the student’s PowerSchool account. Only the contacts listed as having custody of the student will be allowed to access student information. Additionally, only the contacts listed as approved for school pick-up will be allowed to check a student out of the building without prior approval from a custodial guardian.

If someone presents an ID that does not match the contacts in PowerSchool, the approved guardian may be contacted to clarify. If someone will be picking your student up from school who is not on the contact list, please provide this information to the Front Office team ahead of time. 

When students are dropped off late or picked up early from school, please always use Door 1 and make sure students are signed in and out of the Front Office.

The Orioles’ Nest will not run during the following days in February: 2/21, 2/22 

Only 25 students are allowed a night and students must report to the Nest promptly at 3:35pm. The Nest is located in the Learning Lab and goes until 5:30pm on most Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. 

If your student does not sign up and we are at max capacity, they will be asked to try again for the next day. Please ensure your student signs up!

A Few Notes from our Attendance Team:

• We have received many calls and google forms for students where they believe they were marked absent incorrectly by their teacher. Students should talk with their teacher directly as any attendance corrections must be made by the teacher. 
• If you leave a voicemail on the attendance line, please allow us until 1pm each day to complete attendance voicemails and forms. If after 1pm you or your student notice the attendance is not marked per your message, then please reach out at that time. Thank you.
• All PSEO & Study Hall release forms need to be completed and turned into Student Services. Once they have received the form, the counselors will update the student’s schedule and submit the information for the student to receive a release pass on the back of their student ID. Please allow this process to take 1-2 school days to be fully completed.
