May is Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage month.  This year’s theme, Advancing Leaders Through Opportunity, embraces the rich culture and history of our AAPI community, and acknowledges their contributions, both past and present, to work towards a successful future. 

Let us learn, celebrate, and honor alongside the AAPI community.

The Metro West Conference Visual Art Exhibition was a huge success with eight participating schools, each submitting up to ten works of art. It was an excellent show of talented students from all schools involved. St. Louis Park brought home two awards for their excellent work in two categories! Henry Horstman Olson won an award for a wheel thrown pottery piece, and Estrella Ochoa won an award for an acrylic painting titled Bloom.

Congratulations to both recipients and to all who participated! It was an excellent show!

Wednesday, April 26th, 23 St. Louis Park Physics and Engineering students had the opportunity to visit BLUvera. BLUvera is owned by Mortenson Construction and designs, manufactures, tests and develops new applications for pre-assembled walls for hospitals, hotels and other commercial buildings .  Students had the opportunity to hear about how BLUvera started, what the facility does, possible career pathways and opportunities and saw the facility in action.  It was a great experience, and we would like to thank Andy Carney, member of our Career Pathway Advisory Board, in helping make this onsite field trip happen!  It truly was eye-opening to see the intersection of manufacturing, engineering and construction!

• Outside and underclassmen guests must have a completed form on file by Friday, May 5th and must bring their student ID 
• Absolutely no re-entry into the dance
• Tickets will NOT be sold at the door, you must buy online
• No cash accepted

Minnesota Private Colleges Week registration opens May 1

Students, parents and counselors can begin registering on May 1 for 9:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. visit sessions offered June 26 through June 30. The annual, multi-day event offers low-pressure introductory campus tours and informational meetings and can serve as a first step to help students discover what they’re looking for in a college.

The Orioles' Nest, an after school academic support program, is always looking for nutritious snacks. If you'd like to contribute, please bring it to the front office.  Best items are store bought individually wrapped like granola bars, crackers, fruit snacks and more. Please note they cannot accept any refrigerated items.

In accordance with the Minnesota Immunization Law (Statute 121A.15), students entering 12th grade for the 2023-2024 school year are required to have documentation of immunizations received, or a legal exemption, for Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and meningococcal vaccines. Information about immunization requirements can be found here. 

If your student should not have immunizations for medical reasons or because of your conscientiously held beliefs, we must have legal proof of exemption.  The legal exemption form is available on the MDH website.

After your student has completed the immunization requirements, send a copy of the immunization record, or legal exemption, to the High School Health Office. Records can be faxed to 952-928-6238. 

Central Clinic offers healthcare to students who live or go to school in St. Louis Park.  Services are free and include immunizations for uninsured and MA/MNCARE.

Happy spring! As you pick up and drop off your kids this year from schools or parks, you may notice some “Idle-Free SLP” signs. That’s because the City of St. Louis Park, in collaboration with Park Nicollet, launched a student-driven idling reduction campaign for cleaner air and healthier lungs. Idling, or running the engine while parked, can produce more tailpipe emissions per minute than driving and has been linked to asthma symptoms, heart and lung disease, cognitive issues, and premature death. Children are even more vulnerable to air pollution than adults because they breathe more air per pound of body weight and their respiratory systems are not yet fully developed. This makes idling near schools – one of the most common idling scenarios as parents wait to pick up their children – especially dangerous.
