St. Louis Park High School announced today that Arun Ferran-Sapatnekar and Julia Lorenzen have been named Commended Students in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Although not advancing to the Semifinalist level, Arun and Julia are among the 34,000 students recognized nationally for their exceptional academic promise. Last week, St. Louis Park High School buzzed with excitement as Homecoming Week kicked off! The festivities began with a movie night on the field, bringing students together for a relaxed evening under the stars. The energy built with the annual pepfest, where the school gathered to cheer on teams and celebrate SLP pride. The Homecoming parade filled the streets with school spirit leading up to the highly anticipated football game. Capping off the week, students danced the night away at the Homecoming dance, themed "Under the Sea," creating a magical evening of celebration and community for all. GO PARK!! | | | |

Fall Conferences will take place the week of October 7th-October 11th. Families have two options to connect with teachers:
- Virtual by Appointment: Each teacher will have availability for virtual conferences across the evenings of Monday, October 7th to Thursday, October 10th. Appointment times will vary based on the teacher. You can sign up for a 10 minute virtual conference with any number of your child’s teachers. An email will be sent from “Student Support App” on Thursday, October 3rd to select appointment times.
- In Person Drop-Ins: On Friday, October 11th, there will be no school for students, and teachers will have drop-in availability in person from 8am-3pm, with lunch from 12:30-1pm. To make things more convenient for families, all teachers will be set up at tables in the field house. This will avoid the need to navigate the entire building to connect with multiple teachers. Since families may be waiting in line to connect with the same teacher, conferences will be 5 minutes each.
Please select the option that works best for your family. If you need to connect with a specific teacher for a longer time, please reach out to them directly through email.

Attention Advanced Placement Students and Families
Advanced Placement Exam Registration is OPEN!
AP exams will take place at SLPHS in May.
The deadline for registering is November 1. Students enrolled in AP Courses will be provided information on how to register for exams by their AP teacher. Students may also pick up information on exam registration in Room A203.
All Independent/Self Study students will need to complete the exam registration process prior to November 1. Please stop by Room A203 for information on how to register.

The Orioles’ Nest
What is the Orioles’ Nest?
It is an after school academic support program that is open to all students who would like a change of location or more structure in their after school study time. At the Nest, we believe in empowering each learner to live their brilliance in an environment that centers their student voice in order to enhance their learning experience.
When & Where?
Starting October 8th the Nest will occur on most Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30pm - 5:30pm in Room C163 (located behind the media center). Days are subject to change, please make sure you are checking the schedule for any cancellations through the Student Support application, as well as the C163 door.
Orioles’ Nest is:
- A space for students to create their own safe learning environment
- Cross-curriculum tutoring to address academic concerns
- New opportunities for interventions/restorative practice
- Ability to earn credit: speak with the coordinators for more information
- Quiet space and focused time, as well as areas for working on group projects
- Social Emotional Connection/Relationships with Individual Staff/Teachers
- Technology Availability (WiFi issues, Device Needs)
Tutors:
- Please refer any students who you believe would make a great Peer Tutor for The Nest
- Staff members, if you are interested in volunteering your time to help support The Orioles’ Nest and tutor students after school please let us know

October is College Knowledge Month - Kick it off with “Ready, Set, FAFSA!”
Free college and financial aid events are available to Minnesota students and families via Zoom (all virtual)!

What are the dates, topics and suggested audience?
All sessions are at 7:00 p.m. will last approximately 45-60 minutes. Participants can ask questions in the chat. Participants can attend any number of sessions (choose dates during registration).
• Tuesday, October 1: Apply to College | 10-12th grade students
• Tuesday, October 8: Understand Financial Aid | 10-12th grade students
• Tuesday, October 15: Create Your FSA ID | 12th grade students
• Tuesday, October 22: Scholarship Search | 10-12th grade students
Who are the presenters?
Presenters are from the Minnesota Office of Higher Education and ECMC The College Place.
Will this information be offered in other languages?
Yes! All sessions will have simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Somali and Hmong. In addition, there will be financial aid professionals during each session who can answer questions in the chat in Spanish, Somali and Hmong if needed. We plan to record the presentations as well.
How can students and families participate?
All sessions will be on Zoom, but space is limited. Students and families can register at the following link: bit.ly/RSFAFSA. Session materials and recordings will be posted on the same page after each event.
Scholarship Opportunity
Students who attend any of the sessions or watch a session recording will be eligible to win a $1,000 scholarship (one entry per session attended) awarded by ECMC The College Place Minnesota.
Suggested audience is 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and their parent(s)/guardian(s).

Free college tuition makes education possible for more Minnesotans.
North Star Promise provides free college tuition to help make education after high school possible for more Minnesota students and families. Free tuition is available at all Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, all University of Minnesota campuses, and all Tribal Colleges.
The North Star Promise program is open to all Minnesota residents with a family Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) below $80,000, as reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Minnesota Dream Act Application. Completing one of these forms is all you have to do for North Star Promise funds.

The Transit Assistance Program (TAP) is designed to make public transit more affordable for people with lower incomes. TAP provides a year-long reduced fare pass on a Go-To Card. Customers can use a bus or train for just $1 per ride – even during rush hour – with a 2½ hour transfer.

2025 Senior Class Party planning has begun! We have started planning the Senior Class Party following graduation on June 3rd. Our goal is to have a free party for all the graduates at Park Tavern. To make this event free, we need to raise money through fun events, donations and fundraising. Here’s how to get involved:
