Congratulations to the students who participated in the 2023 Model UN Conference from March 30th- April 1st. 

Participants in Model UN learn how countries interact with each other and gain a global perspective on the issues that impact our everyday lives. Students take part in a conference where we will be ambassadors and UN officials in a simulated international diplomacy.

Seniors Isaac Israel and Amira Abdirahman, and advisor Emma Engebretson started Model UN at SLPHS this year and formed a delegation that has already grown to 24 students! Please congratulate the students who participated in our first delegation!

Congratulations to the Park band students who competed in the Region 6AA Solo/Ensemble Contest at Edina High School on Monday, April 10th! We had 14 students voluntarily compete in 13 different events. Tying our previous 2022 best results, 65% of the students earned a Superior (top) ranking and 35% earned an Excellent (2nd to top) ranking. For context, other lower rankings include Good, Fair, and Poor. Two students received the very rare honor of earning a perfect score of 40/40. Those students are Isaiah Klepfer, 12th grade, on tenor saxophone and Max Przezdziecki, 10th grade, on the marimba. Due to other schools in the region having spring break extend through 4/10, Park was only competing against ourselves and Edina. We were especially proud since they have multiple directors, an adult band program secretary, a program triple the size of ours, and large majorities of students with professional instruments and private lessons.

On April 13, during lunch, students had a chance to connect with local business to find summer jobs, new career pathways or new networking opportunities. Still looking for a summer job? Check out the virtual jobs board.

On Friday, April 14th, students organized our first Friday Flowers at the High School with the support of Ms. Emma, Ms. Germain, Ms. Hefstad, and Mr. Goddard. This is a new program at the high school that will happen every other Friday during 5th hour in the cafeteria. We are partnering with a local Minneapolis flower shop, Fleurs de Lee. 

Friday Flowers is an exciting way to celebrate the start of Spring and bring joy to our SLP community! Buy a flower for a friend, staff, family or a special someone to show your appreciation and care for them! You can include a note or keep it anonymous!

Our next Friday Flowers will take place on April 28th during 5th hour in the Cafeteria! Flower prices range from $2-$10.

For the first Friday Flowers, all profits went to support the upcoming Summer Europe trip. Future Friday Flowers events will support various clubs and activities at the high school. Have any questions? Contact Emma Engebretson (engebretson.emmac@slpschools.org).

April is Financial Literacy Month and to celebrate, students in Personal Finance are playing the Stock Market Game. They receive fake $100,000 to invest in the stock market in real-time. Congrats to these weekly winners last week!

• No cash accepted

April 18: School Board Listening Session

The SLP School Board invites families to join them for the upcoming listening session on Tuesday, April 18. The listening session will be held at 6:30pm in the High School Library Media Center. This is a great opportunity to ask questions and have a conversation with school board members. It is important to note that this is not an official meeting and no official action will be taken. Please be aware that the school board members will end the listening session 30 minutes after the posted start time if there are no stakeholders in attendance.

Help celebrate our graduating seniors by joining a community-wide effort to show Park Pride for the class of 2023. We invite families and community members to buy and display a lawn sign in your front yard or window for all to see ($25 each). 

Signs will be distributed April 23 and 30 12-2 p.m. at the SLP High School parking lot near door 1. Please order by Friday, April 14.

The Orioles' Nest, an after school academic support program, is always looking for nutritious snacks. If you'd like to contribute, please bring it to the front office. Best items are store bought individually wrapped like granola bars, crackers, fruit snacks and more. Please note they cannot accept any refrigerated items.

After Spring Break, students who lose a Chromebook charger and have already received one (1) due to loss, will be charged a $35 fee. Students will be allowed a one-time replacement for the first occurrence of a lost charger. Chargers that stop working or have a technical issue will be replaced for no fee, as per normal policy. If students require a replacement charger, they should make the request with the Library Media Center. The fee must be provided prior to receiving a replacement. Payment can be made via cash or check made out to St. Louis Park Public Schools.

SLP-issued Chromebook chargers require a specific wattage to function properly and safely. Replacement chargers should only be purchased via the Library Media Center. An SLP-issued/purchased charger must be returned with the device when it is collected at the time of a student's unenrollment from SLP or at the end of 8th grade or 12th grade.

The St. Louis Park Housing Authority is still accepting applications for the Kids in the Park Program. Attached is our application and criteria for the program. Applications can also be found on the city website.

The Kids in the Park program provides rent assistance to households with school-age children for up to four years. Participants receive a flat monthly rental assistance that decreases annually over the four-year period. Eligible households must have an income at or below 50 percent of the area median income; have one parent or guardian who works a minimum of 28 hours per week; live in rental housing in St. Louis Park; and comply with their lease requirements. Families with disabled and elderly heads of household don’t need to comply with the work requirement. The program was developed in partnership with the St. Louis Park Emergency Program (STEP) and the St. Louis Park School District.
