IMPORTANT DATES

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Wheelchair Basketball Experience,

Girls' Varsity and Junior Varsity

On Wednesday, February 5th, the Girls' Varsity and Junior Varsity Basketball teams had a unique opportunity to experience the sport from a different perspective. Thanks to Coach Hayes and the team’s manager, Lucas Dean (pictured), in collaboration with the Courage Center, the players got to try out basketball using specially designed wheelchairs.

The event was a memorable one, with everyone thoroughly enjoying the experience.

By the end of the session, it was clear that Lucas Dean is not only a skilled manager but also an exceptional athlete, as many players eagerly expressed their desire to be on his team.

It was an eye-opening and inspiring day for all involved!

AROUND THE SCHOOL

February marks National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, a critical reminder for parents and guardians to engage in conversations with their teenagers about healthy relationships.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three teens will experience some form of dating violence.

As a parent, you play a vital role in educating your child on the warning signs of an unhealthy relationship, such as manipulation, control, and emotional abuse.

By fostering open dialogue and promoting respect, empathy, and communication, you can empower your teenager to build positive relationships and seek help when needed.

We encourage you to take this opportunity to talk to your teen about dating violence and healthy relationships.

Head to www.changetochill.org to learn more about Healthy Relationships.

Additional information:

81% of parents believe teen dating violence is not an issue or admit they don’t know if it is an issue.

80% of teens say teen dating violence is an issue.

Attached is a sheet outlining the characteristics of a healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationship.
