AROUND THE SCHOOL

Escape the Vape Video Challenge Returns for 2024

Students in Minnesota to participate in e-cigarette PSA video contest

The Escape the Vape Video Challenge, a youth vaping prevention video contest, is back for 2024. Minnesota middle and high school students are invited to create and submit a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) video to educate their peers on the dangers of e-cigarette use, also known as vaping. Submissions will be entered into a competition for cash prizes for both students and their schools.

The Escape the Vape Video Challenge is a collaboration between a broad group of Minnesota organizations who are working to reduce youth e-cigarette use. The objective of this video contest is to engage youth to use their voices and inform their peers about the dangers of vaping. Last year, students in middle and high school submitted 350 PSA videos. This year, there will be a re-submission period for youth who submit a video that does not align with the guidelines.

Minnesota Youth can learn more about the Escape the Vape Video Challenge and submit their video at mnescapethevape.org.

Key Contest Dates

  • February 1, 2024 - Video Submission Opens (Students will have the month of February to finalize and submit their videos
  • February 29, 2024 - Video Submission Deadline
  • April 22, 2024 - Finalists Announced

GET INVOLVED WITH PEAC

Our Parent Engagement Advisory Committee (PEAC) Mission:

We partner to create a collaborative and inclusive learning environment for students, families and educators that fosters and embraces the brilliance of the St. Louis Park community.

Parents and Caregivers, we’re here to help make connections to volunteer opportunities and ways you can show your support that will make a difference for our high school community. We hope you find something that fits what you are looking for. And if not, let us know what you are interested in - we’ll see what we can do! If you have questions, please send a note to [email protected].

WAYS TO HELP

GRATITUDE NOTES TO TEACHERS AND STAFF

There’s something about writing and receiving gratitude notes that makes everyone feel good. We encourage you and your student(s) to send a note (or two) to a teacher or staff member this week (and keep ‘em coming for weeks to come!). Email addresses can be found in PowerSchool or you can send handwritten notes to the school’s office.

SEND THE PEAC YOUR STUDENT AND PARENT SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

Big or small, these moments matter to us all. If you are comfortable to share, take a moment to send a quick email to [email protected] and let us know what comes to mind. The PEAC will share these stories with the St. Louis Park high school staff to remind them of the important work they do.

HELP TO DONATE TREATS FOR TEACHERS

The PEAC delivered coffee, muffins and treats to staff last week, and we’re hoping to do more for teachers and students. If you’d like to contribute to future deliveries, please Venmo the PEAC at @SLPHS-PEAC.

DONATE GIFT CARDS TO THE SUNSHINE PLANNING SQUAD

The high school’s Sunshine Planning Squad plans fun activities that build wellness with staff. Please consider donating one of the needed 25 $5-$15 gift cards that will be shared with staff in upcoming activities. Please use this Sign Up Genius to indicate if you can help out.

ATTEND THE FINAL COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL!

When: March 4, 12:00 - 12:30 p.m.

Where: High School front office

Why: It’s your opportunity to spend time with Principal LaNisha Paddock—she’ll

share updates on timely topics and you can bring your questions.

LET'S KEEP THE FUNDRAISING GOING FOR THE SENIOR PARTY!

FINAL PEAC MEETING

Mark your calendar and attend our final PEAC meeting of the school year on April 16 (7:00 - 8:00 p.m) in person at the high school. Here’s where you can get important updates from the Principal team and key department stakeholders.

If you are interested in being part of the PEAC, we’d love to have you join the team. Please send us a note at [email protected].

Thank you!
