This week we celebrate and honor the contributions of the teachers and educators in support of our SLP community.

2023 Summer Credit Recovery -

Registration opens Monday, May 8th!

Credit Recovery provides an opportunity to make up missed high school credits in a fun, flexible and alternative way. This year, we will be located in the middle school, offering students 2 options: one is a traditional teacher-led instruction and the other is through Edmentum (online) learning with teacher support. Both must be in-person. Students will participate for 3 weeks, with an optional 4th week in Edmentum (online). Attendance is critical for earning credits; up to 2 credits may be earned depending on choices selected. If there are any concerns or barriers to your participation, please reach out to Carole Charlson, Credit Recovery Coordinator, at charlson.carole@slpschools.org, and we will try to work around any difficulties.

Classes will be held Monday through Friday:

● June 12 - June 30, 2023

● July 10 - July 14th is an optional 4th week - Edmentum (online) only

Times:

● 8::15 am - 11:15 pm and 12:00 - 3:00 pm (lunch provided)

Families will be receiving a postcard in the mail with the above information shortly

By purchasing a ticket the student agrees to the following:

• No outside food or beverages
• Must present ticket, receipt, or student ID at the door
• Outside and underclassmen guests must have a completed form on file by Friday, May 5th and must bring their student ID 
• Absolutely no re-entry into the dance
• Tickets will NOT be sold at the door, you must buy online
• No cash accepted

On Friday, May 12th, students will be organizing our 3rd Friday Flowers at the High School with the support of Ms. Emma, Ms. Germain, Ms. Hefstad, and Mr. Goddard. This is a special Friday Flowers as it is the end of Teacher Appreciation Week and right before Mother’s Day and Prom! Stop by the cafeteria to buy a flower for a friend, staff, family or a special someone to show your appreciation and care for them! You can include a note or keep it anonymous!

Flower prices range from $2-$10.

On May 12th, the Summer Euro trip students are partnering with Environmental Club! Contact Emma Engebretson (engebretson.emmac@slpschools.org).

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Even though it may seem like we’re talking about mental health and well-being, there is still a stigma associated with mental health conditions and seeking mental health care. Having conversations about mental health can help debunk myths and end the stigma so that everyone can get the help and support they need.

Minnesota State Week

Explore Your Future with a visit to one or more of your state colleges and universities during Minnesota State Week, June 26-30. 

Minnesota State Week is a great time to explore the 33 colleges and universities that make up Minnesota State. Special campus visit events are planned at all of the Minnesota State campuses. Just contact the colleges or universities you want to visit from the list below.

And you can apply for FREE to one or more of the 26 colleges and seven state universities at any time during the week—it’s a great way to save a few bucks and get started on your journey to your dream career!

Join your Principal Team in person for “Coffee with the Principal” on May 19 from 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. in the front office.  This is a great time to engage with the principals and get questions answered.

Who we are

Children First’s North Star goal is for all people and organizations in St Louis Park, MN to be knowledgeable, strategically aligned and actively involved in increasing positive outcomes for children and youth, ensuring that kids feel included, valued and deeply connected to our caring community.

The Role

You will help us launch our Upper Grades/Post-Secondary/Career Readiness efforts, the heart of which is youth leadership. Your main focus will be to help design the structure for the Youth Leadership Group (YLG) we plan to launch in the fall. That group will determine ways to improve the life outcomes of youth in St. Louis Park. You will help us develop the role and capacity building of YLG members and work with our data coaches to prepare for the YLG to analyze challenges and opportunities for positive change in SLP. And, as always, “other duties as assigned” – we have some summer programs that might need a little help at key times.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Active participation in meetings and discussions during term of employment
• Helping create the Youth Leadership Group, which will begin meeting during the school year
• Help recruit young people to the Youth Leadership Group
• Analyze data about student success in St. Louis Park to identify disparities between demographics and help develop strategies to address the disparities that the group identifies
