In honor of Memorial Day, St. Louis Park Public Schools will be closed. Memorial Day is recognized in honor of all those who fought for freedoms. We remember those who have passed, and thank those who have dedicated their lives to protect our liberties.

June is the beginning of Pride Month!

Pride Month begins on June 1! LGBTQIA+ Pride Month is celebrated each year in the month of June. Historically, June is significant because of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. This was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the U.S. However, there have since been many more strides in the LGBT movement throughout the years. We celebrate the diversity in our school community!

Second Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the St. Louis Park ROC! Sunday, June 18, 1-4pm. Join us for a fun filled celebration filled with education and entertainment, shopping, fun, and food!

Thanks to our friends at North Star Therapy Animals who came to visit with students and staff.  They were a welcome break from the end of the year stress.  Bea, Annie and Winnie all received lots of strokes from our SLP students.

Bilingual Seals are a system in Minnesota for recognizing proficiency in both English and another language. This year, thirty six seniors from St. Louis Park HS received this award for showing proficiency in Spanish based on their scores on their AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. ¡Felicitaciones a esos estudiantes!

As AAPI (Asian American/Pacific Islander) Heritage Month comes to a close. Margaux Pollock and Henry Schrader were invited to be high school student ambassadors for Aquila Elementary AAPI assembly. Thank you Margaux and Henry for being great AAPI student leaders.

Check out our six-week miniseries featuring graduates from the class of 2023. Halima is a creative and outside-the-box thinker who is excited to attend Gustavus Adolphous this fall. She'll be a student athletic (soccer) and interested in majoring/minoring in political science, theater, and film studies.

The last week of school we will be running a modified schedule to allow extra time for students to take finals. Below is what the schedule will look like for the last week of school. Monday and Tuesday will be running a regular schedule and Wednesday and Thursday will be a block schedule.

Class of 2023 and families,

As we head into the last week of school for Seniors, we would like to provide more specifics around graduation and the graduation ceremony.

Graduation Do’s and Don’ts:

Do arrive on time - 6:00 PM for Seniors - Gates open at 6:30 to enter stadium

Do plan on having an enjoyable evening but expect a large crowd

Seniors - 

Do not decorate caps

Do not wear high heels, chunky heals and wedges are appropriate,

Do not bring food/beverage

Seniors Last Week:

Seniors, we would like to acknowledge that the last few days of your 2023 graduating year is coming to a close. This week should be one of reflection, celebration, and Park PRIDE.  We understand that seniors partake in many traditions throughout the school year as a right of passage to adulthood.  As we head into our final days at Park, we would like to remind seniors that fun also comes with the responsibility to engage in traditions safely and respectfully.  

As a reminder, the following ensure that our SLPHS community remains a safe respectful space:

• Be respectful of your peers, school property, & grounds to include the neighboring community.
• Safe and attentive driving in the parking lots and school grounds is expected.
• Replica guns to include toy/water guns are strictly prohibited on campus.  Not adhering to this policy would result in students being removed from our commencement ceremony.
• Safe and responsible behavior during dismissal time (ie walking and staying clear of buses & vehicles leaving for parent/student pick-up).

We want you to have a fun and successful end of the school year.  We are so proud of your accomplishments and can’t wait to see what’s next for each of you.

Accessible seating consideration is available by filling out the following form: Accessible Seating Form or calling Abby Schrader 952-928-6106. One guest per person requiring accessible seating and an accessible seating gate will open up from 6:00-6:30 PM at the 35th and Dakota gate.

At graduation, everyone gets a diploma cover (it does NOT contain the actual diploma)

-Once we confirm you’ve completed all your credits and obligations, then you can pick up your diploma:

-June 7, Diploma Pick-up - 12:00 - 4:00 PM

-If you don’t pick it up that day and are done with everything, it will be mailed home

Last day of the Orioles’ Nest will be on Wednesday, May 31st! 

Please remember to sign up on student support for the session you would like to attend.

The Summer Student Pass is valid from June 1 through Sept. 6^th. Students can use it on any bus or train in the metro with a fare up to $3.25 (for fares high than that amount, like some Northstar commuter rail trips, students will need to add value to their passes.) 

Students can go to metrotransit.org/summer-student-pass to get more details about the pass and order one online with a credit card or purchase a pass with cash or a credit card at Metro Transit Service Centers. 

Eligibility 

The pass is available to all students enrolled at a participating school (one per student). To purchase a pass, the student must provide your school's name and their student ID number. Metro Transit will deny purchases without this information. Seniors may purchase a Summer Student Pass if they were enrolled in a participating school in 2023. 

Replacement 

Students MUST register their pass (registration is free) with Metro Transit to receive a replacement pass. A $5 processing fee will be charged. 

Credit Recovery provides an opportunity to make up missed high school credits in a fun, flexible and alternative way. This year, we will be located in the middle school, offering students 2 options: one is a traditional teacher-led instruction and the other is through Edmentum (online) learning with teacher support. Both must be in-person. Students will participate for 3 weeks, with an optional 4th week in Edmentum (online). Attendance is critical for earning credits; up to 3 credits may be earned depending on choices selected. If there are any concerns or barriers to your participation, please reach out to Carole Charlson, Credit Recovery Coordinator, at charlson.carole@slpschools.org, and we will try to work around any difficulties.

Park Connection Credit Policy

During four years of high school students participate in weekly 45-minute Park Connection classes. Students earn .25 credit for each year of Park Connection work. Credit success is based upon participation (attendance) and Schoology posted assignments. Park Connections will be a transcripted grade (P or NG) at the end of each school year.

Park Connection Grading Policy

Students will earn a P (Pass) or NG (No Grade) for Career & College Readiness(CCR)/Park Connections

To earn a “P”

• Participate in weekly Park Connections
• Complete CCR schoology assignments (75% or higher)
• Park Connection Advisors will monitor Park Connection gradebook and communicate with students regarding work that is to be completed
• If a student does not complete the minimum requirements, they will receive an NG (no grade) on their transcript. 

JOIN THE PEAC (Parent Engagement Advisory Committee)TEAM!

Get in on the action and be involved in PEAC.  We are especially looking for a treasurer.  Estimated time per week commitment in 23/24 school year:  15 mins on average with some weeks up to an hour and most weeks at zero.

In accordance with the Minnesota Immunization Law (Statute 121A.15), students entering 12th grade for the 2023-2024 school year are required to have documentation of immunizations received, or a legal exemption, for Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and meningococcal vaccines. Information about immunization requirements can be found here. 

If your student should not have immunizations for medical reasons or because of your conscientiously held beliefs, we must have legal proof of exemption. The legal exemption form is available on the MDH website.

After your student has completed the immunization requirements, send a copy of the immunization record, or legal exemption, to the High School Health Office. Records can be faxed to 952-928-6238. 

Central Clinic offers healthcare to students who live or go to school in St. Louis Park. Services are free and include immunizations for uninsured and MA/MNCARE.
