Greetings and Happy May!
As spring blossoms around us, we are filled with renewed energy and anticipation for the exciting weeks ahead. May Day marks a time of growth and celebration, and we see that same vibrancy in our students as they wrap up the school year with focus and enthusiasm. Warmer days bring opportunities to reconnect outdoors, support one another, and reflect on how far we’ve come this year.
This month, we honor the rich contributions of our diverse community by celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. These observances offer us valuable opportunities to learn, reflect, and affirm our commitment to equity and inclusion. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to acknowledge the importance of emotional well-being. We continue to support each other with compassion and understanding, and we encourage all students, staff, and families to prioritize their mental health.
Next week is Spirit Week, and we’re excited to see our students express their school pride and creativity! Spirit Week will lead us right into Prom on May 10th, a milestone celebration for many of our students. We encourage everyone to participate in the themed days and activities, and we thank our staff and families for helping to make these experiences joyful, safe, and memorable.

Career Pathways in Action:
SLPHS Helps Shape the Future of Work-Based Learning
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, members of the St. Louis Park High School Career Pathways program—advisory board members*, students, teachers, and alumni—took part in an exciting and innovative regional event:
“Writing Our Region’s Work-Based Learning Story: A Human-Centered Design Experience.”

What It Was All About
This unique event used storytelling and design thinking to engage participants in shaping a more inclusive and impactful future for work-based learning in our region. Through collaborative exercises and creative conversations, attendees explored how real-world experiences can better prepare students for life beyond high school.

SLPHS in the Spotlight

Landon Goelz and Joseph Knapper, both students at St. Louis Park High School, served as Student Leaders, helping guide and support the workshop’s interactive sessions.

Avery Filley, an SLPHS alum, gave the keynote address, sharing their powerful story of how a high school internship became the launching pad for a successful career in manufacturing.
Avery’s journey is a testament to the value of hands-on learning and how work-based experiences can unlock access to multiple skilled career paths.

Why It Matters
This workshop emphasized the importance of designing educational experiences with students, not just for them. SLPHS Career Pathways students and staff were proud to represent the school’s commitment to future-ready learning—connecting classrooms to careers and ensuring every student sees themselves in the world of work.

*The St. Louis Park High School Career Pathways Advisory Board is a collaborative group dedicated to enhancing Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at the high school. The board’s mission is to align educational offerings with real-world career opportunities, ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and experiences they need to succeed in life after high school.

| | | | HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER LEARNING CREDIT RECOVERY | |

The 2025 High School Summer Credit Recovery Program offers students an in-person opportunity to make up missed credits in a condensed, flexible learning environment. Two instructional options are available: traditional teacher-led classes or supported online learning through Edmentum. The program runs from June 16 to July 3, Monday through Friday, with no school on June 19 in observance of Juneteenth. Students can earn up to 2 credits over the 3-week session.
Registration opens Monday, April 14 and closes May 30 (or earlier if classes fill). Attendance is mandatory, lunch is provided, and transportation is not available. Classes will be held at St. Louis Park Middle School.
For questions, students and families should contact their grade-level counselor or the Summer Credit Recovery Coordinator, Alonzo Parks.

What: Temporary services offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-4 pm at
Creekside Clinic, located at 6600 Excelsior (services include Immunizations, Sports
physicals, Acute needs, and sexual health needs)
When: Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Tuesday, April 22, through Thursday, June 5
Times of services are from 1:30-4 pm
Services are not offered during the summer months

Any current 9th-12th grade student at participating schools can get
unlimited rides on buses and trains up to a $3.25* fare. Passes are
valid from June 1 through Sept. 2, 2025.

Join us for a free family swim day on Saturday, May 3 from 12:30-2:30pm at SLP Middle School - appropriate for first time swimmers! We’ll have water safety activities and swim tests for anyone wanting to swim in the deep end. Swimmers can bring coast guard approved life jackets or puddle jumpers. Sorry, no arm bands or inflatables allowed.

While we’ve received valuable input from many community members, we recognize the critical importance of including more perspectives from our Black, Asian, and Indigenous families.
