Dear St Louis Park High School Families,
Our school community is buzzing with meaningful events and opportunities to connect, and we’re thrilled to share a few highlights with you.
On Monday, January 20th, school will be closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This is a time to honor Dr. King’s legacy of equity, justice, and service. We encourage students and families to take this opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s contributions to social justice and civil rights, and engage in acts of service within the community.
Join us this evening for the opening night of our school play, Kodachrome, at 7pm in the high school auditorium. Before the performance, enjoy a photography gallery in the lobby showcasing works by student artists. Can’t catch the show tonight? Kodachrome will also be showing on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and 2 pm respectively. It is a touching story you won’t want to miss.

The city launched its Safe Streets Action Plan to prevent, reduce, and eliminate serious injury and deadly accidents for everyone using the roads. Safety is a critical component of our transportation network and ensuring all residents can access their daily needs. The plan will include policies and recommendations that will guide future transportation investments in St. Louis Park. | | | |

January 8th - 31st
The Schedule Change Request Form will be available.
Reasons on the form for schedule changes.
- Wrong level of a course.
- Missing a prerequisite course.
- Missing a graduation requirement.
- Conflict in my schedule. (examples: classes the same hour, too many study halls.)
- Change the level of a course.
This form will remain open until January 31st, 3pm.

February 4th - 21st
May exit a class for Study Hall.
Students may still exit a class for a Study Hall, provided they carry a minimum course load of 5-6 classes.
No grade will appear on the transcript.
The Class Drop Form (available in Student Services) must be completed and returned to the Grade Level School Counselor with all required signatures (student, teacher, parent/guardian)
Course Level Change
If a student begins a course and needs to change to a more appropriate level, there is a 4-week window at the start of each semester.

Feb. 4th - May 3rd
All course drops will result in a ‘W’ (Withdrawal) being entered on the student’s transcript.
A ‘W’ does not impact GPA, but will be seen by college admissions.

St. Louis Park High School Theatre Presents
Kodachrome January 16-18
Kodachrome, a one-act play by Adam Szymkowicz, is a modern take on Thornton Wilder’s Out Town. Told through the lens of the town photographer, Kodachrome provides snapshots into the lives and loves of its residents. These interwoven moments celebrate nostalgia and teach us when it’s time to say goodbye.
All performances will be held in the St. Louis Park High School Auditorium and feature a pre-show gallery of work by the SLPHS photography classes. On January 16 and 17, the photo gallery opens at 7:00 and the play performance begins at 7:30. For January 18 matinee, the gallery opens at 2:00 and the play begins at 2:30. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students and senior citizens, and free with student ID for all SLPHS students. Purchase tickets at https://gopark.hometownticketing.com/embed/all.

Escape the Vape Video Challenge Returns for 2025
Minnesota students have until January 31 to enter for a chance to win cash prizes
The Escape the Vape Video Challenge, a youth vaping prevention video contest, is back for 2025. Minnesota middle and high school students are invited to create and submit a 30-second public service announcement (PSA) video to educate their peers on the dangers of e-cigarette use, also known as vaping.
Contest submissions are being accepted now through January 2025. Submissions will be entered into a competition for cash prizes for both students and their schools.
Prizes for students and their school
Middle and high school students will compete in separate divisions. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top five entries in each division.
- First place - $500 for students and $250 for their organization or school
- Second place - $250 for students
- Third place - $150 for students
- Fourth place - $100 for students
- Fifth place - Escape the Vape Video Challenge swag package

- January 31, 2025 - Video Submission Deadline
- March 2025 - Finalists Announced
- April 2025 - Public Voting and Winners Announced

Strategic Plan Community Survey Reminder and Upcoming Event
We are moving forward with our strategic planning and are warmly inviting families and community members to share their feedback by taking the survey. Their input is a crucial part of the process because we want to ensure that every family's voice is heard and valued.
We are also inviting community members and families to participate in the upcoming in-person community engagement session on Monday, January 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the District Office (6300 Walker Street). There will be another session specifically for teachers with students in the district at a later date.
