Greetings Park Students and Families!
Congrats! We made it through Quarter 1 of the ‘21-’22 school year. Creating a culture and climate of learning includes building positive relationships, honoring the experiences of students, and applying culturally relevant pedagogy. At SLPHS we value student voice in creating an educational experience that allows students to reflect on their school experience. Student feedback allows our team to hold high academic expectations for students and provides a foundation for meeting their individual needs.

On Friday, November 5th, families should have received an email with a personalized link for Conference sign ups. Teachers will be available on November 17th all day, and two additional evenings during the week of November 15th.
These conferences will be held in a 30-minute ‘Student-Led’ format. Students have been reflecting on their own learning, grades, future goals and will be leading the conference. During the conference, the Park Connections teacher will facilitate the conversation and families will be asked for feedback regarding the support their student needs. While the student’s teachers will not all be present for the conference, the most important person in the conversation will be present - the student.
This change is being piloted based on key findings and reasoning:
Student-led conferences encourage students to think critically about their own abilities and achievements, and help students develop skills they’ll use long after they’ve finished school.
Gives power, agency and leadership to the student when it comes to their own learning. Students reflect on their own learning and can name their learning rather than teachers sharing their observations.
Engage families in richer, more transparent conversations about student progress, in a less overwhelming and time consuming setting than meeting with 5-7 teachers for a short period of time.
Please reach out to your student’s Park Connections teacher if you have any specific questions that they can address individually or for scheduling concerns.

Asynchronous Learning: November 17 |
|
Wednesday, November 17 is a scheduled asynchronous learning day for students in grades 6-12, as both the Middle School and High School will hold family conferences on this date.
All assignments on that day will be available in Schoology. Teachers will post the learning for that day in Schoology the day prior and students will be asked to engage in that learning during the day on November 17.
Attendance will be based on the students participation online, based on their log-in or attendance question on the Park Connections class page. Students will need to login to Schoology in order for attendance to be taken. If they are already logged in or logged in automatically, please have them log out and log back in.

District Seeking Feedback on Racial Equity Policy |
|
St. Louis Park Public Schools is seeking feedback from staff, students, parents/families and the community on a NEW Racial Equity Policy that was created in alignment with the 2020-25 Strategic Plan for Racial Equity Transformation. The purpose of this policy is to “establish expectations and accountability measures for the District’s work promoting racial equity and developing culturally relevant learning environments in order to create an equitable and anti-racist school system that honors all children, families, and staff.”
In the past year, the School Board Policy Committee worked collaboratively with the Superintendent, entire School Board and district leaders to write the new policy language with input and feedback on draft language from all stakeholder groups.
Public schools have historically-embedded systems and structures that disproportionately target and impact our black, brown and indigenous students in the area of discipline while not providing equitable educational environments. With our new strategic plan and the school board’s resolution on equity and anti-racism, and discipline data, we knew that writing this policy was a priority to guide the school district’s work systemwide.
To seek feedback on the FINAL DRAFT of this policy, the school district is conducting focused conversations with stakeholder groups and inviting feedback through Thoughtexchange. Thoughtexchange allows stakeholders to share thoughts, feedback, and ideas in an open-ended, confidential, and easy-to-use digital environment. After school board approval there will be education for teachers and staff and students and families for full implementation of this policy.

Hello students and families. We are reaching out to announce that we now have a prayer room open to all students. It will be open/supervised during all 3 lunches, and as well for 15 minutes at 2:30pm, so students who desire can observe prayer. It is located in the B1 hallway, across from the vending machine and stairwell, in the old athletic office.
We require the completion of the prayer room agreement by both student and guardian/parent for those who wish to utilize the space.
We are glad to offer this space, for Muslim students we have prayer mats on offer, but feel free to bring your own. If you have any questions, please email schloer.aaron@slpschools.org.

SLPHS Musical: Anne of Green Gables |

St. Louis Park High School Theatre Presents
Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical November 12-15 and 19-21
Based on L.M. Montgomery’s beloved book series, the Theatreworks USA musical adaptation follows Anne Shirley, an independent and inquisitive orphan girl. Anne arrives in Avonlea by mistake: the aging Cuthbert siblings intend to adopt a boy to help them manage the farm. Anne’s irresistible charisma soon wins over the Cuthberts and the entire community in this charming tale of finding love, family, and home.
Performances are November 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 7:00 pm, November 14 and 21 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students and senior citizens, and free with student ID for all SLPHS students. Tickets can be purchased in person 30 minutes before each performance or online in advance at https://slphsanneofgreengables.eventbrite.com. Please note, all attendees must wear masks while in the building.

Donate them to us today!
DECA the class is hosting a sports equipment and school supplies drive, where we will donate collected goods to those in need. Collections can be dropped off in room B224 or in the main office. We will distribute the collected items on Saturday, November 20th, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, in the High School Cafeteria.
