Greetings!
 
As I reflect on the challenges of the last 20 months, I can’t help but think about how random acts of kindness have helped provide light and love even through the most difficult of moments.  Random acts of kindness are unsolicited.  These acts have exponential value in their ability to bring joy to others.  Whether it be the email from a parent expressing gratitude, a smile from a student, peer, or co-worker, to the coffee purchased from the stranger in line at Starbucks, random acts of kindness have the power to positively change the trajectory of someone’s day.  Within all of us, we have the ability to pay it forward and spread cheer through random acts of kindness no matter how small.

Even without scholarships, families can still find ways to afford college. Start by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and contact your school's financial aid office to find out what federal, state, and institutional aid you might qualify for. Finding money for college is a lot like taking classes: The way to succeed is to do your homework. 

MNACC BIPOC STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP OPENS 11/1 - Each year, MnACC provides dozens of one-time scholarships for students of color who are in pursuit of higher education at one of our 67 member institutions. Students who are awarded this scholarship will receive a one-time award ranging between $500 to $2,500 to be used towards their education during the 2022-2023 academic year. This year’s application opens November 1st and the deadline is March 11. Click here for more information to share with your students. Junior Class ACT Information
ALL JUNIORS (Class of 2023) WILL TAKE THE ACT (FREE)
What is ACT:   The ACT is a national college admissions examination that consists of subject area tests in: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science and an optional writing test. The purpose of the ACT test is to measure a high school student's readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that may be used to compare all applicants. (check your specific college to learn if ACT is optional for applications). Good ACT scores can lead to merit scholarships (free money). 
 
Date:         April 5, 2022 (8:25 a.m. start) 
 
Test Delivery:    Digital Format on Chromebooks
 
Location:      On site at St. Louis Park High School (specific rooms TBD)

DECA and The Block
Student Discount Night at The Block 
DECA is thrilled to announce that every Sunday - Thursday is student discount night at The Block. The Block is a local restaurant located on 7007 Walker Street near the high school. Any SLP High School Student that presents their student ID at The Block Sunday - Thursday night from 3-6 PM, will have access to a special student menu. (click here to view)
Teacher Appreciation Night 
On Thursday nights, teachers who present their ID get a 20% discount off of anything on the menu. The discount night will be happening every week until January 30. Looking forward to seeing you there!
