Greetings!
As we head lean fully into 2022, I am reminded that we have come so far and yet there are many challenges that lie ahead. And yet I am hopeful that our young people will guide us into a new day. A day that centers our core value on the persistent efforts in creating anti-racist schools and academically successful learners both inside and outside of the classroom. Each day is a new beginning, a fresh start to be in relationship with each other to dismantle the barriers that keep us from living in our brilliance and I am grateful to lead such an amazing community.

Dr. Dan Phillipe - School Psychologist - has been tasked with appreciation and helping build a great culture across the 120+ staff members at the HS. He’s leveraging gift cards you donate for staff raffles every couple weeks. The perfect gift card is for dinner (Doordash, Grubhub, local restaurant, etc.) in the amount of $50. We all know there are lots of math combinations to get to $50 - any amount is greatly appreciated!

The Orioles' Nest, an after school academic support program, is always looking for nutritious snacks. If you'd like to contribute, please drop off store bought individually wrapped items like granola bars, crackers, fruit snacks and more. Please note they cannot accept any refrigerated items. |

Last week our students and staff engaged in our first Action Thursday. Staff led interest based activities during Park Connections. Students participated in Uno, open gym, reading room, music, yoga, and more. A special thank you to Kjirsten Hanson, social worker & SEL coordinator, for your hard work in making this a reality for our community.

ACT & Girls United Donation Drive |
|
Saint Louis Park’s ACT (Achieving Change Together) and Girls United are collaborating on a joint initiative to donate to Haven Housing, a non-profit organization in North Minneapolis dedicated to aiding women and children experiencing homelessness and other crises. Starting from February 1st-February 25th, we will be hosting a donation drive for this organization. Feel free to drop off your items by the double doors near the office. Though Haven Housing has rigid limitations on what can and cannot be donated to their organization, please do not hesitate to donate other items than provided on the list below, ACT and Girls United will make an effort to donate to other local organizations willing to take them.
List of donatable items:
Feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons, diva cups, new hairbrushes, new FULL-SIZE fash wash and lotion) New women’s and/or children’s clothing (underwear, t-shirts, sweat pants, and sandals) Laundry Items (laundry bags, laundry soap, dryer sheets, and fabric softener).

The St. Louis Park Jazz Ensemble performed at the West Metro Conference Jazz Festival on Thursday, January 27th. They heard peer bands and a professional concert by the same judges who gave them feedback. Among the pieces played were the Count Basie/Sammy Nestico standard “Orange Sherbert”, Benny Carter’s “Katy-Do”, and Jermone Richardson’s “Groove Merchant”. Earning the top ranking of Superior, judges' comments for the band included “amazing”, “professional”, “almost unstoppable”, and “great repertoire choices”. We will continue to use the other feedback and advice throughout the year. |

Sno Daze will be postponed while we look for COVID safe alternatives.
Please look for information coming soon about Dress Codes and afterschool activities in place of our traditional Sno Daze format. The Student Council will be working on an alternative for the dance.

We encourage students to check out our Black History Month book display in the Media Center!
Or they may take a peek at this Collection in Destiny (our library catalog) full of print and digital materials featuring Black families. Students can use their SLP Google account to login.
Students may check out up to 6 nonfiction or fiction books for 3 weeks, graphic novels for 1 week. Students may visit the Media Center before and after school, over lunch, during WIN Wednesdays, Action Thursdays or during English class.

2022 D.C. Trip (Current 9th Graders) |

Families that have already registered to travel:
1) Mr. Burr, trip coordinator and teacher at the Middle School, sent an update e-mail to families that are registered to travel earlier this week. Please check to see if you received it. If you did not receive it, please contact him at burr.david@slpschools.org.
2) Final payments are due by March 31. WorldStrides does offer an extended payment plan if you don't think you'll be able to make the deadline. You are strongly encouraged to check your account balance. Please contact WorldStrides for all financial questions either by calling Customer Service at 1-800-468-5899 or e-mailing them CustomerService@worldstrides.com. Our Trip ID is 193112.

Please consider attending the Oriole Scholarship Club, our mission is to help classmates pursue their dreams of higher education. We creatively fundraise on behalf of the charitable organization St. Louis Park Dollars for Scholars. 100% of donations to the Oriole Scholarship are awarded to St. Louis Park graduating high school seniors. Take part in community service (possible NHS hours), gain leadership experience, and have some fun! Meetings on Zoom every other Wednesday from 4 to 4:30 pm.
