1: From the Interim Principal
Hello SLPHS Families,

Graduation planning is in full swing for the Class of 2021.

I am thrilled to announce that with the announcement of Governor Walz’s plan to lift COVID-19 restrictions across the state by July 1 and with the announcement allowing 100% capacity at outdoor venues, we are able to host 3,000 guests at our Commencement Ceremony on Tuesday, June 8. That means, each of our 371 graduates will receive 8 tickets for their family and friends.  Tickets will be distributed with caps and gowns.

The bulleted points below provide essential information for families of our seniors.  Each senior and their family will be given additional information about graduation and end-of-year procedures by Tuesday.
Special Note:
Seniors who are not fully vaccinated are encouraged to move to distance learning for the last two weeks of school.  We do not like to quarantine any student, but we especially would not want a senior to miss their graduation ceremony due to quarantine requirements. If your family makes the decision to do this, please call Kiki Christensen at 952-928-6102.

As Superintendent Osei recently communicated, “St. Louis Park Public Schools will continue to follow a 14-day quarantine period. Per the CDC and MDH, a 14-day quarantine continues to be the safest option.

There are options to reduce the quarantine period in certain situations, however, those that follow the shortened quarantine (7 or 10 days) need to stay 6 feet away from others and monitor their symptoms through day 14. With no social distancing in the elementary schools and 3 feet (when possible) in the secondary schools, this IS NOT A VIABLE OPTION IN SLP and we will continue following the 14-day quarantine protocol.

Following CDC and MDH guidance and working together, we can stop the spread of COVID-19 so that all students can participate in end-of-year events and keep our community healthy and safe.”

Kindly,

Wendy Loberg
Interim Principal

About S&C:
Strength and Conditioning is a year-round program designed to support Oriole athletes both in and off-season. This program is a complement to an athlete’s sport skill training and specifically targets growth in the areas of strength, speed, agility, mobility and injury prevention. The program is carefully coached to keep all athletes safe while they work toward achieving their athletic goals.
This researched based approach will prepare athletes for sport in the safest way possible while under the supervision of coaches and in consultation with athletic training staff. Workloads will be carefully monitored and progressed appropriately for all athletes.
4: School-Issued Devices Collection

Instructional planning for the 2021-2022 school year is underway. The collection of school-issued Chromebooks, iPads, mobile hotspots and associated chargers prior to the last day of school is essential to ensure digital tools are available for learning at the start of next school year.

The High School Choirs, Band & Orchestra members will be presenting Christopher Tin's "Calling All Dawns" next Friday and Saturday, May 21 & 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Field House. This is the same piece a number of Choir students performed at Carnegie Hall with the composer, Christopher Tin, conducting in his Carnegie Hall debut in 2019. The 12 song work explores universal themes of Day/Life; Night/Death; Dawn/Rebirth, with 17 soloists and chamber orchestra. Song texts are in Swahili, Japanese, Mandarin, Portugese, French, Latin, Irish Gaelic, Polish, Hebrew, Farsi, and Sanskrit. Masking, 6' distancing, and record keeping of seat assignments will be required. A free will offering at the door will help defray costs of the Choir's Tour & Competition in Hawaii during 2022. Support your classmates in this inclusive experience!

11: Added PSEO Information Sessions
12: Booster does of meningococcal vaccine for 11th & 12th Grade
Minnesota law requires that all students get vaccinated against certain diseases or have a legal exemption on file to enroll in school. Students entering 12th grade for the 2021-2022 school year need to have documentation, or a legal exemption, for the booster dose of meningococcal vaccine. Most children received the initial dose of this vaccine when they entered 7th grade.

Teenagers and young adults are at higher risk for meningococcal disease. This booster dose is important to make sure they are fully protected through their highest-risk years. Anyone can get meningococcal disease, but college freshmen living in dorms are at increased risk and should get vaccinated. If your 12th grader has not gotten the booster and they are going off to college, please get them scheduled for it.

A person with meningococcal disease may become seriously ill very quickly. Antibiotics can treat meningococcal infections, but often can’t be given soon enough to help. If you plan to seek legal exemption for this booster, please do so before the start of the school year, as documentation needs to be submitted to the health office. If you need exemption information, the immunization form is available on the MDH website (www.health.state.mn.us/people/immunize/basics/imzform.pdf).

Should you have concerns about costs, ask your child’s healthcare provider about low-cost vaccinations or contact Central Clinic at 952-993-1100.
