Greetings!
What a wonderful week it has been, meeting students, staff and families! It is hard to believe that we will be together in just a few short days. Being with our young people keeps me energized and I cannot wait for our school year to begin.
Welcome class of 2025! It was a pleasure to learn and celebrate with our incoming students at New Student Orientation. The transition to high school is one filled with emotions. There might be feelings of doubt, anxiety, excitement, and joy. Take them in and embrace them. I wish you the best in creating life-long memories.
Fred Rogers said, “Look for the helpers, you will always find people helping”. Strong communities are built on a foundation of helpers. As we transition back to school, how might you practice servant leadership? What type of helper might you be? How might you serve SLPHS in shaping a culture and climate where all students are seen, heard and valued? I challenge all young people to help each other as we transition back to in-person learning.
I cannot contain my excitement for the upcoming school year. We have a fantastic week planned. Time dedicated to be in relationship with each other and celebrate who we are both as individuals and a community. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Civics Students Receive National Recognition for Project Citizen |
|
A group of students from Ms. Cisco’s 2020-2021 9th Grade Civics class were recently honored with an “Exceptional” ranking in the National Project Citizen Showcase. Two groups of students participated in the National Project Citizen Showcase: Safa Abdi, Aliya Ade, Ayub Ayub, Nolen Heinrichs, Sofia Jerney, Nora Olson, Autumn Steinke, Jack Thompson, Kelton Wyckoff, were selected based on their presentation at the Regional Project Citizen Showcase, hosted by the Michigan Center for Civic Education. They were chosen to represent Minnesota in the National Showcase. Project Citizen is a national public policy showcase in which students research a local, state or federal problem and develop a policy based solution. Their projects, on Racially Disproportionate Exclusionary School Discipline and Menstruation Products for Unhoused Women, are the first ever projects from St. Louis Park High School to be featured in the National Showcase. |

Masking and the COVID Return to School Guide |
|
In an effort to maintain a safe environment for our students and staff in relation to COVID-19, St Louis Park Schools has developed mitigation strategies for the upcoming school year. SLPHS is committed to creating a safe environment for our community per Board Policy 808.
Face Coverings and/or masks are required for all students, staff, and visitors indoors. Masks are also required when traveling by school bus. Properly wearing masks to cover nose, mouth, and chin will help decrease the spread of COVID-19. Masks are not required outdoors at any time.
Please take time to review the Back to School Guide and discuss this with your high school student. A link with the information can be found below. The information contained in this guide is designed to support you in the transition back-to-school this fall.

St. Louis Park High School Home Athletic Event Expectations |
|
Masks are required to be worn properly by all spectators attending contests in District buildings. Masks are not required at outdoor events, however MDH recommends mask wearing outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained.
Please remember the following are prohibited at athletic contests at District venues: Outside food or drink, facepaint, signs and pets.
All student spectators are expected to sit in the bleachers or provided seating.
There is no re-entry.
Bags and backpacks are not allowed in the stadium.
Any student in middle school or younger will need to be accompanied by a paying adult to attend all St. Louis Park High School home athletic events where admission is charged. Student tickets will only be sold to the adult responsible for the student. Paying adults agree to supervise students for the entirety of the event.

ACE Mentorship Program Information |
|
Have an interest in architecture, construction, or engineering? If so, the ACE Mentorship Program is a great opportunity to explore these careers. The program pairs students with working professionals to gain exposure to these fields. After school, once a week, students will work with mentors from several local companies to plan, design and model a unique structure or site. In the spring, students will then compete against other student groups from around the area. The ACE Mentorship Program sponsors many scholarship opportunities. Each year that we have participated students have earned several thousand dollars to go toward an education in these fields. The Fall Musical begins soon. Attend the theatre interest meeting on Thursday, September 9, to find out how you can join the cast, technical crew, or pit orchestra. We will gather in the auditorium foyer for a meet-and-greet at 3:15; show info will be presented in-person and online at 3:45. For those who cannot attend, info updates will be posted on the theatre interest meeting live document.

New Format for Submitting Student Absences |
|
Students are expected to be in class every hour, every school day.
For the school year 2021-2022, we are piloting an attendance form. If your student will be absent from school for any reason, please submit the attendance form (https://bit.ly/3Ctay26), within 24 hours. Please be prepared to report the following information: student name, grade, date of absence, reason for absence and your name/relationship. Any absence not excused within 24 hours will remain unexcused. Students can not excuse themselves.
