Greetings!
During April we celebrate Poetry Month. Poetry revitalizes the soul as an expression of written art without rules. It has the ability to evoke a voice within each of us that embodies advocacy, activism, love, passion, courage, vulnerability, success and perseverance. Poetry is a mood, a time, or a place. It is an unconventional way to share our lived experience and learn from each other.

As the weather gets warmer, we would like to provide the following reminders about lunches:
Students in grades 9-11 have a closed lunch period, meaning they are required to remain on campus during their assigned lunch period. Seniors may only leave during their assigned lunch period and are expected to return to the building and arrive to class on time.
All food should remain in the cafeteria or designated lunch spaces. Students are prohibited from eating and drinking in hallways and classrooms unless otherwise directed.
Food delivery from GrubHub, DoorDash, etc. is strictly prohibited for students. SLPHS discourages food delivery from parents & caregivers as it poses a significant disruption to the school day for our office staff. Emergency food deliveries must go through the main office. Any food deliveries from parents & caregivers are expected to be dropped off during your student’s assigned lunch period to the main office. All external food must be eaten in an assigned lunch area.
Please do your part in keeping outdoor and indoor spaces clean by disposing of your garbage in an appropriate garbage receptacle.

St. Louis Park High School students are expected to respect our neighbors and not litter, loiter, smoke, trespass, or act inappropriately on or near their property. This includes being safe and responsible while driving on and off campus. Please do your part in respecting on and off-campus community spaces. |

April 13 Conference Meals:
Help us support staff on April 13 (Asynchronous day of learning) as they participate in in-person conferences at the HS. Let's treat them to a taco dinner with all the fixings!
Please sign up to bring in food or beverages before noon on Wednesday, April 13. Remember your students have time throughout the morning to deliver your contribution if they can drive!! A great way for them to help honor a Staff who cares so much about them!

Student Leaders who run the Birdfeeder have asked for help to secure much needed donations. The Birdfeeder is an in school food bank students can access for help with meals away from school.
The biggest need is gift cards to grocery stores like Aldi, Target and Cub so student leaders can purchase exactly the items most in need each week.
Other high need items are snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, and bags of chips, canned chicken, and mac & cheese.
If you can contribute any of these items, please drop them off in the front office and label the envelope or grocery bag "Birdfeeder". Your continued generosity to support every learner is greatly appreciated!!

Youth Engagement Spotlight National Essay Contest |
|
What can we do as a society to reduce stigma and foster resilience and coping in young people seeking mental health treatment?
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD), and Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) are co-sponsoring the “Speaking Up About Mental Health! This Is My Story” national essay challenge. The contest aims to start conversations about mental health and encourage young people to seek help for mental health issues.
U.S. high school students ages 16-18 are invited to submit a short essay. Topics may include resilience, ending stigma, improving communication among peers and adults, and more. The submission deadline is April 30, 2022, and winners will be announced in September 2022. Multiple winners will be chosen to receive cash prizes!
