Greetings!
Last week our Library Media Center kicked off the month by celebrating reading and literacy. Students and staff are sharing their love of reading with each other school-wide. The stories told whether fiction or nonfiction allow us to expand our minds and visit places we can only imagine.
My favorite picture book, Last Stop On Market Street by Matt De La Peña, tells the story of a boy and his grandmother and their bus ride through the city where they reside. This book holds space in my office as a reminder of the importance of community. Each time I read this book, I travel to Market Street and reminisce about my own childhood neighborhood experiences and how my community past and present has influenced who I am today.
Books have the power to take us to anywhere imaginable. They capture the stories of our lived experience and allow us to pass along culture, traditions, history, knowledge and imagination to future generations. I hope you find time to get lost in a great book.
