Greetings!
I hope you are enjoying the last few days of summer vacation! Tomorrow, staff will return to the building to begin planning what will be a phenomenal school year together. It is our collective responsibility that each student at Park gets an educational experience that honors our district mission. St. Louis Park Schools sees, inspires, and empowers each learner to live their brilliance in an environment that centers student voice and experience to create racially equitable learning that energizes and enhances the spirit of our community.
The African proverb Ubuntu or “I am because we are” is a saying that resonates deeply with me. It lives and breathes in our school community and is the foundation of the values we hope to contribute well after our time has passed at SLPHS. It plants the seeds we hold dear... commonality, dignity, value, compassion, love, social justice and solidarity and asks us to nurture these values so our community can flourish. As we prepare to share space with students this upcoming school year, I cannot help but to be filled with gratitude. What a gift to learn and grow from our young people. I look forward to seeing each of you on September 8th.

2021-2022 Student Schedules |
|
Students will be able to view schedules through Powerschool (view schedules through Powerschool, not Schoology). Please know that classes will be balanced over the last weeks of August so students should check for their most up-to-date schedule on Tuesday, September 7th, 2021. Schedule change requests will be very minimal and must be made prior to Wednesday, September 15, 2021. All schedule change requests can be made through the Schedule Change Request link found on the login page of Powerschool.
Please remember that schedules will only be adjusted for the following reasons:
1) A wrong class appears,
2) A level adjustment needs to occur,
3) A graduation requirement needs to be fulfilled.
Unfortunately, schedule changes cannot be made for teacher choice or class time preference.

PowerSchool Parent Portal Access |

As we welcome students, parents/guardians, and families for the 2021-22 school year, we are providing many of our communications electronically. Many of our systems rely on - and can be accessed through - the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
If you already have a PowerSchool Parent Portal account, you DO NOT need a new one. All student, parent/guardian, and family information entered last year will be forwarded to this school year. BEGINNING MONDAY, AUGUST 30 you can review and update the information (if needed) as requested in the Required Forms Mailing.
Letters were mailed August 27 to all students and parents/guardians who NEED TO CREATE a PowerSchool Parent Portal account. Parents/Guardians with a kindergarten student, those who are NEW to St. Louis Park Public Schools, and returning families who have not created an account previously will receive a letter with instructions and access information.

Welcome to SLP Schoology for Parents!
St Louis Park Schools use Schoology, a digital learning management tool that creates online classroom community and enhances student engagement. Schoology allows our students to connect both at school and from home. Schoology has been a district tool since 2013; if you have previously created a parent Schoology account and connected your child(ren), that account is still active and you do not need to create a new account. If you have forgotten your password, you can use the recovery link on the Schoology website.
If you are a new family to St. Louis Park Schools, you will need a Schoology access code for each of your children. Parent Access Codes are available on the PowerSchool Parent Portal, and/or the Library Media Specialist or Counselor at your child’s school can assist you with that code. Email is best to communicate your request, but please call the school if that is not an option. Once you have that access code, here is a tutorial for creating your parent Schoology account.
It is important to note that a parent Schoology account is different from a student Schoology account. When you login as a parent in Schoology, you are by default taken to your parent own view; you likely will not see any information for your child(ren) in this view. In order to see specific information for your child(s) courses, you first need to toggle to their account. Do this by clicking on the small arrow in the upper right corner of Schoology, and then selecting a child connected to your account. Once you have selected the child, you should now see the recent activity connected to their courses and groups, as well as calendar items and updates.

9th Grade Orientation For Parents/Caregivers/Students |

Parent/Caregiver Orientation
Parents/Caregivers are invited to a 9th grade orientation session on Wednesday, September 1, at 6:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Attendees will hear from key support staff, learn about 9th grade academic program, and engage with experience high school parents through a panel presentation. Optional school tours will be provided:
Student Orientation
9th grade orientation is Thursday, September 2, from 8:00-11:30 a.m. Breakfast will be provided upon arrival and then we will kick off the event in the auditorium. After the gathering, students will meet with their Park Connections teacher and receive their schedules and locker assignments. Students will have a chance to find their classes and common locations in a Scavenger Hunt, as well as attend an Activities Fair. The fair will give students time to mingle, ask questions, and indicate interest in various clubs and athletics.
Bus information for 9th grade orientation (including times and bus stop locations) will be available on August 24 through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Times and bus stop locations will be the same as what will be used during the school year. Return buses will be departing from the high school at 11:40 a.m.
If your student is unable to attend orientation, they can view their schedules in PowerSchool and watch the drone tour of the school.

Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Park Connections Meetings - Thursday Sept. 2nd from 8-10a.m. and 12-7p.m. Transportation and translation services can be provided if needed. Scheduling the meeting will take place through Student Support Time App. Log in at slp.studentsupporttime.com to schedule your time.

NEW School Issued Chromebook |
|
Pick up your NEW School Issued Chromebook! The Device Agreement must be signed by a parent/guardian, in PowerSchool Parent Portal, prior to issuing your device and any previous device must be returned.
Freshmen will meet their Park Connections teacher and pick up their device during Freshmen Orientation from 8:30-11:30a.m. on September 2. No 1-1 will be scheduled for Freshmen. *Students are expected to use the District issued Chromebook for instruction- Personal devices should be left at home*

New Format for Submitting Student Absences |
|
Students are expected to be in class every hour, every school day.
For the school year 2021-2022, we are piloting an attendance form. If your student will be absent from school for any reason, please submit the attendance form (https://bit.ly/3Ctay26), within 24 hours. Please be prepared to report the following information: student name, grade, date of absence, reason for absence and your name/relationship. Any absence not excused within 24 hours will remain unexcused. Students can not excuse themselves.

Student parking permits will be sold online each semester.
The process has changed slightly to allow for more access. Starting at 8am on September 2nd, students need to complete the Google Form(https://bit.ly/3jGSF7i) indicating the desire for a Parking Permit, assigned on a first come first serve basis, and sell out very quickly. On September 8th at 8am, students will be notified that they have been assigned a parking permit. At that time, payments can be made online(preferred) link will be provided in confirmation email or in person if needed. They are $50.00 per semester. If payment is not submitted prior to September 13th at 8am, permits will be released to anyone on the waitlist. Once purchased, please print a receipt and have your student bring it to the Main Office to pick up their parking permit. Students will need to have all obligations cleared up and present a valid driver’s license when picking up their permit. Cars without permits are subject to being towed.
