As we head into semester 2, February begins Black History Month. This month our SLPHS community will celebrate Black Excellence and honor those that paved the way both past and present. On February 14th we will pay tribute to our African American parents, families, and caregivers on National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID). The work to reach our brilliance takes all of us. A willingness to lean into the brilliance of each other without limits or boundaries. To share ourselves authentically with each other and provide space to seek out multiple perspectives and understand the lived experiences of our brothers and sisters. It is time to empower each other and lift our voices in solidarity. UBUNTU!

Our wonderful Park Connections Teachers are in need of a few items as they work to make this time with students even more engaging. If you have/can purchase any of the following items to donate, please drop them off at the front office:
- Dungeons and Dragons games/supplies

ACT & Girls United Donation Drive |
|
Saint Louis Park’s ACT (Achieving Change Together) and Girls United are collaborating on a joint initiative to donate to Haven Housing, a non-profit organization in North Minneapolis dedicated to aiding women and children experiencing homelessness and other crises. Starting from February 1st-February 25th, we will be hosting a donation drive for this organization. Feel free to drop off your items by the double doors near the office. Though Haven Housing has rigid limitations on what can and cannot be donated to their organization, please do not hesitate to donate other items than provided on the list below, ACT and Girls United will make an effort to donate to other local organizations willing to take them.
List of donatable items:
Feminine hygiene products (pads, tampons, diva cups, new hairbrushes, new FULL-SIZE face wash and lotion) New women’s and/or children’s clothing (underwear, t-shirts, sweat pants, and sandals) Laundry Items (laundry bags, laundry soap, dryer sheets, and fabric softener)

Dollars for Scholars Information |

Please see this year’s Dollars for Scholars Newsletter. DFS is a volunteer board that raises money for graduating seniors.
Please consider joining the board - if you are interested, contact Barb Nelson, Counselor & Scholarship Coordinator (nelson.barbara@slpschools.org).
The DFS application for this year's graduating class will be explained at the March 2nd Senior meeting, with applications due Wednesday, March 23rd.

2nd Semester PARKING PERMITS |
|
Student parking permits are now on sale. Students will need to complete the Google Form at https://bit.ly/SLPparking indicating the desire for a parking permit. Permits will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis and historically sell out quickly.
On Monday, January 24 at 8 a.m. students will be notified that they have been assigned a parking permit. At that time, payments can be made online (preferred). The link will be provided in a confirmation email. Permits are $50 per semester. If payment is not submitted by Monday, January 31 at 8:00 a.m., they will be released to anyone on the waiting list.
Once purchased, please print a receipt and have your student bring it to the Main Office to pick up their parking permit. Students will need to have past due media center and instructional materials returned, and present a valid driver’s license to receive their permit. Vehicles without permits are subject to being towed. If you have questions/concerns or need to pay in cash or check, please contact Kiki Christensen at 952-928-6102 or christensen.kirsten@slpschools.org.

Teen Annex Spring 2022 Parent Education Opportunities |

Do you want to grow your confidence in having sensitive conversations with your teen? If yes, this series is for you!
About this event
Research shows that parents and caregiver have the most influence on their child/children during early adolescence. This is a perfect opportunity to have conversations with your child around sensitive topics like sexuality, sex, and relationships. During this workshop you will grow your knowledge around the topic, learn tips and tricks to having these conversations with your child/children, and expand your confidence in engaging in these important topics with your teen.
Register for one or all the workshops.
After you attend a workshop, you will receive a family fun box! The family fun box was curated by Annex Teen Clinic parent educators to promote open communication and connectedness with parents and their teens.
