Good Evening,
Yesterday evening our juniors and seniors celebrated Prom 2022. It was fun to see our students glammed out as they danced the night away. As we head into our final weeks of school I hope students will lean into their strengths both individually and collectively to end the year successfully.
In spite of the end of year celebrations, I cannot separate the heaviness of the racially motivated violence that took place this weekend in Buffalo, New York. My thoughts go out to the families who senselessly lost loved ones. As our SLPHS community tries to unpack the layers of racial trauma that too often impacts communities of color, we offer that students needing support to process this event may access our support staff of administrators, social workers and counselors.

May 25 -Asynchronous Day Information |
|
On May 25th, St. Louis Park High School will implement an asynchronous day for all students. The day is designed to provide students the opportunity to get additional support to end the year successfully. Students will be able to schedule time with their assigned teacher using the Student Support Time app. Students can choose to come in-person or get support virtually. Coursework will be accessible on Schoology and students are expected to complete work asynchronously if students do not attend in-person learning. The Orioles’ Nest will also be available for students that need support with credit recovery coursework.
Students that choose to attend in-person learning will be dismissed at 12:30 pm if transportation is needed. Transportation will be limited to activity routes and must be requested through the Student Support Time app. A bag lunch will be provided to all students that choose to attend in-person. Attendance will be taken for Park Connections, and will be based on participation in the Park Connections activity.

El 25 de mayo, la escuela del High School implementará un día sincronizado para todos los estudiantes. Este día se utilizará para brindar apoyo adicional a los estudiantes ahora que culminamos el año escolar. El día está diseñado para brindarles a los estudiantes la oportunidad de obtener apoyo adicional para terminar el año con éxito.Los estudiantes podrán programar tiempo con su maestro asignado usando la aplicación Student Support Time. Los estudiantes pueden elegir venir en persona u obtener apoyo de forma virtual.
Se podrá acceder al trabajo de la materia en Schoology y se espera que los estudiantes completen el trabajo incluso si los estudiantes no participan en el aprendizaje en persona. Orioles’ Nest estará disponible para los estudiantes que necesitan apoyo con los cursos de recuperación de créditos. El transporte se limitará a las rutas de actividad y debe solicitarse a través de la aplicación Student Support Time. Starting the week of May 16th all students will be required to have a parking pass to park in all high school park lots. You will receive two warning tickets and on your third ticket you will be towed at your own expense. Limited parking passes can be purchased at the main office.
Main Lot and Activity Center/Long Lot After School Traffic Flow
Reminder student pick-up is not allowed in the activity center/long lot after school. Activity buses and athletic buses need access to this lot and this cannot happen if cars are lined up for student pick-up.
Main lot traffic flow will be adjusted starting Thursday, May 19. The middle entrance will be closed starting at 3:00 and will remain closed until the buses leave. Traffic will enter at the west entrance and exit on the east exit.
Parking Lot/Driving Safety
As the weather is getting nicer, we are noticing an increase in parking lot and driving unsafe behavior. Take this time to remind students about safe driving practices and being safe in the school parking lots. We also encourage students to avoid using the rentable scooters during school hours.

The SLPHS band community has several pieces of great news to share. After a rigorous audition process, culminating in a two hour recording session and approval of two judges, Isaiah Klepfer has been accepted into the Minnesota All State Jazz Band. This means he is one of the top two high school tenor saxophonists in the state. He was in the All State Band last year, so a repeat performance is rare and impressive. |

Band 9, Jazz Ensemble, and Wind Ensemble all finished highly successful concerts the week of May 2nd. Forty percent of the composers studied and performed were marginalized composers (female, BIPOC, LGTBQ+). Three seniors did concertos (solos accompanied by band). Olivia Kelly played a Mozart piece on flute, Kris Moe played a set of variations on tuba, and Louise Marshall performed a classic college-level piece on alto saxophone. Louise will be going on to serve our country in the US Army. At the concert, some national band awards were awarded to seniors. Louise Marshall won the John Philip Sousa Band Award. Daniel Chambers-Shaw won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. Jacy Demcisak won the Director’s award. Noah Tomback won the Semper Fidelis (Latin for “always faithful”) award from a uniformed active duty US Marine. |

Finally, Daniel Chambers-Shaw, will be awarded a $500 scholarship from the St. Louis Park Community Band to continue his study of music at Minneapolis College. He will later transfer to either St. Cloud State of MN State Mankato. |

Yearbook Distribution Information |
|
The Echowan staff will be distributing yearbooks during 5th period in the courtyard by the lunchroom beginning Tuesday, May 31 and until Friday, June 3.
If you’ve already purchased a book, your name is on our list. If you have not yet purchased a book and would still like to, books will be available in Mr. Nordmark’s classroom (B229) during 5th period.
Books are $75, cash or check. Please make checks out to Balfour.

LMC End of Year Deadlines |
|
Seniors: LMC books and fines of seniors are due in the Media Center Friday, May 20th. Textbooks should be returned to teachers as advised.
Senior Chromebook Drop Off: Chromebooks and chargers must be returned to the LMC as soon as seniors are done using them May 24th - June 7th. Special collections will be held at Door 28 during cap and gown distribution May 24th and at graduation rehearsal June 7th.
Grades 9-11: The last day to checkout books in the LMC for students in grades 9-11 is Friday, May 20th. LMC books and fines of students in grades 9-11 are due in the Media Center Friday, May 27th. Textbooks should be returned to teachers as advised. Students in grades 9-11 will keep Chromebooks over the summer and through 12th grade. Students in grades 9-11 who wish to turn in Chromebooks and chargers to be held at school over the summer may bring them to the Media Center by the end of the day June 9th.
Summer Chromebook Drop Off: If you need to return a Chromebook over the summer, you may drop it off at the Enrollment Center office 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Mondays - Thursdays. This office is located at the back of the high school; follow the signs (to the right) through Door 26.
Note: May is Jewish American heritage month. Students may take a peek at our book display in the media center or view this Jewish American Heritage Collection (in our library catalog) full of print and digital materials. SLP Google account required to login.

College/Universities of MN State will waive application fees. |
|
The colleges and universities of Minnesota State will waive application fees during “Minnesota State Week,” set for June 21 - 24, 2022. It’s a great time for your students who haven’t decided what they will do after graduation this spring to explore one or more of the 54 campuses that are part of Minnesota State.

12th Grade Vaccination Requirements |
|
Minnesota Immunization Law (Statute 121A.15), requires that all students get vaccinated
against certain diseases or have a legal exemption on file to enroll in school. Students
entering 12th grade for the 2022-2023 school year need to have documentation, or legal
exemption, for the booster dose of meningococcal vaccine. The legal exemption form is
available on the MDH website. Most children received the initial dose of this vaccine when
they entered 7th grade. Information about immunization requirements can be found here.
After your student has completed the immunization requirements, send a copy of the
immunization record, or legal exemption, to the High School Health Office. Records can be
faxed to 952-928-6113.
Central Clinic offers healthcare to students who live or go to school in St. Louis Park.
Services are free and include immunizations.
Location: Central Community Center, 6300 Walker Street, St. Louis Park
Hours: 1-4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, during the school year. Hours are limited in the
summer months.
