Spring has finally arrived. It is always exciting to see the transformation of mother nature as the snow melts and first signs of renewed life begin to bloom. Spring is a time of new beginnings, change, and restoration. As we head into our last week before spring break, take a moment to enjoy the newness of spring. I wish you all much deserved rest and relaxation and hope you return on April 4th refreshed and restored.

District to Send COVID Test Kit Home
This week St Louis Park Public Schools sent COVID test kits home with all students ahead of Spring Break. We are strongly encouraging all students to take this COVID test before returning to school on April 4, regardless of vaccination status. If your student did not receive their COVID test from their Park Connections teacher please have them pick it up during their Park Connections class before Spring Break.

Student Leaders who run the Birdfeeder have asked for help to secure much needed donations. The Birdfeeder is an in school food bank students can access for help with meals away from school.

The biggest need is gift cards to grocery stores like Aldi, Target and Cub so student leaders can purchase exactly the items most in need each week.  


Other high need items are snacks like granola bars, fruit snacks, and bags of chips, canned chicken, and mac & cheese. 

If you can contribute any of these items, please drop them off in the front office and label the envelope or grocery bag "Birdfeeder". Your continued generosity to support every learner is greatly appreciated!!
Park Connections classes have a few more requests. If you have any of these items lying around, please drop off in front office (or have your student drop in front office).

Partnering in Holding High Expectations for SLPHS Students
Our mission at SLPHS is to create a safe community where students are able to live in their brilliance both socially and academically. In an effort to create a positive culture and climate where learning thrives and students remain at the center of our community, we are asking families and caregivers to partner in having conversations with your students regarding school expectations and the importance of maximizing their instructional time. This includes:

  • Arriving at school on time daily and being in class on-time, every period daily. Students belong in class during instructional time where teaching and learning is taking place.  
  • Interacting with peers appropriately and/or asking for help from our student support team when conflict arises.
  • Responding appropriately to reasonable requests andor redirections from staff with regards to school expectations.
  • Use of school appropriate language that has purpose in an educational setting.
  • Care and respect for our physical space and keeping these spaces clean and damage free.  
  • Coming prepared to learn each and every day.

We know we cannot do this work alone and ask that families reinforce school expectations so we are able to live into the SLP Mission, Vision, and Core Values. We also know the challenges that we face with regards to social-emotional safety and mental health and wellness. Our team of counselors and social workers are available in the event your student needs additional support. Students will be offered tiered-interventions from our student support team of administrators & ASCs when necessary. Thank you for your continued collaboration and partnership.
Family Teacher Conferences--Week of April 11th
The High School will be holding family-teacher conferences the week of April 11th in the evenings(Monday through Thursday) and on April 13th during the day of asynchronous learning. Conferences will be 5-10 minute sessions with each of the student's teachers, in a virtual format. If additional time is needed for conferences, please communicate with specific teachers.

Family specific links will be sent via email April 4th from the Student Support Time app, check your spam for the email. If you have concerns or need additional assistance with setting up your conferences, reach out to your students’ Park Connections teacher so that they can help facilitate. 
Testing has begun at the High School
Testing has begun at the high school! 

CHROMEBOOKS MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL DAILY. 
The week of March 14 will be a regular week, no block schedule. 
Tuesday, March 22 and 23, SLPHS will be on a block schedule (1, 3, 5, 7 on Tuesday and 2, Park Connections, 4, 6 on Wednesday). 10th grade students will take the Math MAP test, while 11th grade students will take the MCA Math test, in the assigned math classes. 
When students have completed testing or have opted out, they will be in supervised study halls, so they should bring schoolwork to complete during this time. If still in the testing room, devices will NOT be allowed.

On Tuesday, April 5th SLPHS will be holding ACT testing for all 11th graders. Please read this information carefully, and feel free to reach out to your grade level counselor with any questions you may have.  
All 11th GRADE students will be taking the ACT plus Writing. This is an official ACT and the scores can be used when applying to college. Testing will begin promptly at 8:15am, and students will test with their Park Connections teachers. Juniors will complete all of their testing before lunch at approximately 12:30. Lunch will be provided after. 
9th, 10th and 12th GRADE students will be off-campus in asynchronous learning. All students will have asynchronous assignments on Schoology to complete. Seniors should use their time to prepare for individual post-secondary endeavors (visit colleges, review/compare financial aid awards, complete and submit FAFSA, apply for scholarships, prepare for IB and AP exams, apply to summer jobs/programs, etc.) Previously, students took the ACT in the field house, however this year we have re-structured the test condition to be given in smaller settings, with a more comfortable space. 
Orioles Nest will be open from 8:30 to 1:30 for students to come in for support, tutoring and Edmentum help. Students can sign up on Student Support Time. Regular transportation will be provided in the morning and departure from the high school at 1:30pm.

On April 19th and 20th, the 10th GRADE students will be completing their Reading MCAs and the 11th Grade students will be taking the Science MCA. Students will be testing April 19th and 20th in their English and Biology classrooms in our block schedule(1, 3, 5, 7 on Tuesday and 2, Park Connections, 4, 6 on Wednesday).

LOS CHROMEBOOKS DEBEN LLEVARSE A LA ESCUELA DIARIAMENTE.

La semana del 14 de marzo será una semana normal, sin horarios en bloque.

Martes, 22 y 23 de marzo, SLPHS estará en un horario de bloque (1, 3, 5, 7 el martes y 2, Park Connections, 4, 6 el miércoles). Los estudiantes de 10° grado tomarán el examen MAP de Matemáticas, mientras que los estudiantes de 11° grado tomarán el examen de Matemáticas MCA, en las clases de matemáticas asignadas.

Cuando los estudiantes hayan completado las pruebas o hayan optado por no participar, estarán en salas de estudio supervisadas, por lo que deben traer el trabajo escolar para completar durante este tiempo. Si todavía está en la sala de pruebas, NO se permitirán dispositivos.

Importance of MCA for Career and College Readiness
Minnesota state colleges accept MCA scores in place of ACT, SAT, and ACCUPLACER. Any high school student who earns a “college ready” benchmark on the MCA is not required to take a remedial, noncredit course in the corresponding subject area.

SLP Student Named National Merit Scholar Finalist




Congratulations to Daniel Shope who was recently named a National Merit Scholar Finalist. He is now eligible to compete for scholarships worth more than $30 million.

I am so proud to tell you that two of our students received awards at the West Metro Conference Art Exhibition at Normandale Community College! The juror, Louise Fisher, said "The artworks I selected for awards this year demonstrate strong sensitivity to materials, stylistic originality, observational skills and thoughtful content." French Class Art
The French IV students finished their pastiches (artworks in the style of an artist of their choice) this week. The French II students voted for their favorite pastiche and the artist won a small prize.

We have some spots for students interested in pursuing a 2+2 transfer pathway. 
4-Year applicants can apply for the 2-year program if they aren't sure about their plans.
