Greetings!
We are springing right ahead into what I hope to be warmer weather! Last week I had the opportunity to attend two musical arts performances. It was exciting to experience the musical brilliance of our high school students during the District Band Concert and the production of A Chorus Line, directed by Mr. Schmitz and Mr. Myszkowski respectively. Music is such an integral part of our daily lives and it was a pleasure to watch our students perform. Bravo!

School Board Revises Face Coverings Policy |

School Board Revises Face Coverings Policy
Masks (face coverings) are not required to be worn in St. Louis Park Public Schools buildings or transportation (including school buses), following the School Board's approval of a revision to Policy 808 - COVID-19 Face Coverings.
Mask wearing is recommended for all stakeholders regardless of vaccination status. Students, staff, and visitors may choose to wear a mask based on personal preference and/or informed by personal risk; and their choice to do so will be supported in all district buildings.
At the March 8 school board meeting, the board approved revisions to the policy in alignment to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised guidance on masks in K-12 and early education settings. Specifically, face coverings will only be required when five percent or more of the students and/or staff who attend or work at a St. Louis Park Public School or other facility test positive for COVID-19, or when community levels of COVID-19 are high.

District to Send COVID Test Kits Home with All Students and Staff Ahead of Spring Break
To keep our schools and buildings safe after Spring Break, we strongly encourage all students and staff to get tested for COVID-19 before returning to school on April 4, regardless of vaccination status. We are excited to announce that St. Louis Park Public Schools is in a position to assist families and staff with this request. Beginning next week, students and staff members will be sent home with two COVID-19 tests.

Testing has begun at the High School |
|
CHROMEBOOKS MUST BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL DAILY.
The week of March 14 will be a regular week, no block schedule.
Tuesday, March 22 and 23, SLPHS will be on a block schedule (1, 3, 5, 7 on Tuesday and 2, Park Connections, 4, 6 on Wednesday). 10th grade students will take the Math MAP test, while 11th grade students will take the MCA Math test, in the assigned math classes.
When students have completed testing or have opted out, they will be in supervised study halls, so they should bring schoolwork to complete during this time. If still in the testing room, devices will NOT be allowed.

On Tuesday, April 5th SLPHS will be holding ACT testing for all 11th graders. Please read this information carefully, and feel free to reach out to your grade level counselor with any questions you may have.
All 11th GRADE students will be taking the ACT plus Writing. This is an official ACT and the scores can be used when applying to college. Testing will begin promptly at 8:15am, and students will test with their Park Connections teachers. Juniors will complete all of their testing before lunch at approximately 12:30. Lunch will be provided after.
9th, 10th and 12th GRADE students will be off-campus in asynchronous learning. All students will have asynchronous assignments on Schoology to complete. Seniors should use their time to prepare for individual post-secondary endeavors (visit colleges, review/compare financial aid awards, complete and submit FAFSA, apply for scholarships, prepare for IB and AP exams, apply to summer jobs/programs, etc.) Previously, students took the ACT in the field house, however this year we have re-structured the test condition to be given in smaller settings, with a more comfortable space.
Orioles Nest will be open from 8:30 to 1:30 for students to come in for support, tutoring and Edmentum help. Students can sign up on Student Support Time. Regular transportation will be provided in the morning and departure from the high school at 1:30pm.

On April 19th and 20th, the 10th GRADE students will be completing their Reading MCAs and the 11th Grade students will be taking the Science MCA. Students will be testing April 19th and 20th in their English and Biology classrooms in our block schedule(1, 3, 5, 7 on Tuesday and 2, Park Connections, 4, 6 on Wednesday).

Dollar for Scholars -Senior Application Information |
|
At the Wednesday, March 9th Senior Meeting, all seniors were presented with the directions to apply for the opportunity to earn a Dollars for Scholars Scholarship. This is our local scholarship program that honors graduating seniors with scholarships donated by the community.
All seniors are eligible to apply as there are a variety of types of scholarships available (ie. 2 year/4 year/technical schools as well as many other criteria used to make selections).
Applications are due Wednesday, March 23rd by 3:30. Applicants are encouraged to start the process early as a recommendation is needed and students should give ample time for any person to complete the request.

This week begins SLPHS March Book Madness. Students and staff will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite titles from the top 16 books checked out at SLPHS this year. Here is the SLPHS March Book Madness Slideshow (requires an SLP account for login) with the bracket of 16. The voting form is on the 3rd slide, 4th slide and final slide. There are displays inside and outside the media center with QR codes and a bit.ly, as well.

Students and staff may participate.
One vote per person per round
Voters must sign into the Form with their SLP Google Account to vote.
Any student who participates has their name entered for a free slushie from the Storiole. Three student winners will be chosen and announced March 24th.
The title that wins the tournament will be announced March 24th.

1. Families that are registered for the trip should have received an email update from David Burr, trip coordinator, this week. If you are registered for the trip and did not receive the update, please contact Mr. Burr at burr.david@slpschools.org. Also, the final payment deadline is March 31. What is Ultimate Frisbee?
Ultimate is a dynamic fast-paced sport that combines many aspects of football, basketball, and soccer played with a frisbee. Ultimate continues to be one of the fastest growing sports in America, and Minnesota leads the way with more youth players than any other state!
SLPHS has an Ultimate club with multiple teams for girls and boys. The season runs March-early June and is about to begin.

St. Louis Park Public Schools 2022 Minnesota Student Survey |

Our school district is inviting students in the 6th through 11th grades to participate in the 2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). This survey is voluntary and has been conducted in schools across our state every three years since 1989. The survey is anonymous and confidential. The privacy of students is protected, as students do not provide their names, student identification numbers, or other personal information. No individual or their families can be identified. The results are reported on our students as a whole.
Questions on the survey are about many topics relating to young people’s lives. The survey asks about how well school is going, future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use, and more. High school students are also asked about sexual behavior. This information is used by communities and schools to develop effective programs and provide better services for students.
The survey is administered online. Students will have the ability to read the questions or have the questions read to them through the technology they use to access the survey. The survey takes approximately 45 minutes, or one class period, to complete.
Our school district has informed parents of such surveys in the past and now federal law also requires us to notify parents of this school activity. The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) will be administered in our middle school and high school from April 4th through April 8th, 2022. You are welcome to review a copy of the survey at: https://mnstudentsurvey.org/instruments For additional support on how to review the survey, or if you have any questions about the survey, please contact Dr. Becca Starr, Assessment and Research Specialist at: 952-928-6022 or starr.rebecca@slpschools.org.
Students may also decline to take any part of the survey, or the whole survey, and are informed of that option by staff on the day of survey administration. If you do not want your student to participate in the Minnesota Student Survey, please know that we will be sharing links to a passive consent form/notice to parents by mid-March with a reminder that this survey will be administered in April. These forms will allow you to opt your student out of the survey.
