Greetings!
Wow! We made it through week one at SLPHS. It brings great joy to finally engage with our young people. There were many highlights, spanning from community building and celebration to sporting events. We are off to a great start. As I reflect on the first three days of school I am reminded of the importance high school is in shaping our youth. I am taken back to my own high school experience, and think of the opportunities I had to make mistakes, learn, and grow into adulthood.
The GOAT Michael Jordan said, “ I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
High school is about finding yourself and discovering your contributions to the world. What gifts might you share with our community? So I challenge you to take the shot, miss, learn, grow and succeed. I look forward to celebrating you living in your brilliance.

Hello Parents, Want to be notified of PEAC school-wide volunteer opportunities? While we'll always put opportunities in 6425, here's another way you can stay "in the know". Fill out this quick google form and we'll email you (approx 5 emails a year).
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent community. Over 70 families helped make a building wide staff lunch and snacks happen on Thursday, September 2 by contributing $2710.
Special thanks to Laura Truett and Leah Anklem for coordinating 120 boxed lunches from Jimmy John's, shopping for drinks and snacks and setting it all up for our wonderful educators as they spent 12 hours in the building that day!
Staff feels the love and is ready to bring out the brilliance in every student this year!
All remaining funds (~$600) will be used for additional needs throughout the year as our principals see fit.

Online Learning Platform
As we move to 1-1 devices and to support student learning, we will be utilizing Schoology as a learning platform. This is not a comprehensive outline, but is a minimum standard of what students and families can expect as far as instructional tools to support by course.
- Instructional content specific lessons posted 2-5 times per week in Schoology
- Folders for units of study with powerpoints, handouts, graphic organizers, resource links
- Assignments, projects, and event calendar with timelines and due dates.
- Course information to include syllabus, important course specific links, documents, communications and contact information
*Most accurate grades and attendance will remain in PowerSchool
Note: Synchronous learning will not be provided in the event a student is absent. Students and families should reach out to teachers for additional support with any content posted to the Schoology course.

Masking and the COVID Return to School Guide |
|
In an effort to maintain a safe environment for our students and staff in relation to COVID-19, St Louis Park Schools has developed mitigation strategies for the upcoming school year. SLPHS is committed to creating a safe environment for our community per Board Policy 808.
Face Coverings and/or masks are required for all students, staff, and visitors indoors. Masks are also required when traveling by school bus. Properly wearing masks to cover nose, mouth, and chin will help decrease the spread of COVID-19. Masks are not required outdoors at any time, however masks are encouraged when in large groups or when social distancing cannot be maintained.

St. Louis Park High School Prides itself on creating a safe environment for all community members. This includes our campus parking lot. We have observed unsafe practices during afternoon dismissal from both students and families. In the upcoming weeks our team will be communicating a plan for dismissal to include parent pickup and students permitted to park on campus. Until then please practice safe driving and remain aware of your surroundings. |

Senior photo submissions are due October 22nd.

St. Louis Park High School Home Athletic Event Expectations |
|
Masks are required to be worn properly by all spectators attending contests in District buildings. Masks are not required at outdoor events, however MDH recommends mask wearing outdoors when social distancing cannot be maintained.
Please remember the following are prohibited at athletic contests at District venues: Outside food or drink, facepaint, signs and pets.
All student spectators are expected to sit in the bleachers or provided seating.
There is no re-entry.
Bags and backpacks are not allowed in the stadium.
Any student in middle school or younger will need to be accompanied by a paying adult to attend all St. Louis Park High School home athletic events where admission is charged. Student tickets will only be sold to the adult responsible for the student. Paying adults agree to supervise students for the entirety of the event.

New Format for Submitting Student Absences |
|
Students are expected to be in class every hour, every school day.
For the school year 2021-2022, we are piloting an attendance form. If your student will be absent from school for any reason, please submit the attendance form (https://bit.ly/3Ctay26), within 24 hours. Please be prepared to report the following information: student name, grade, date of absence, reason for absence and your name/relationship. Any absence not excused within 24 hours will remain unexcused. Students can not excuse themselves.

St. Louis Park Park Explorer Information |
|
Join the St Louis Park Police Explorer Post! Police Explorers have the opportunity to attend competitions, ride along with officers, apply for scholarships, and attend training! Becoming an Explorer helps young adults (ages 14-21) build confidence, effective communication techniques, and problem-solving skills.
To learn more about becoming an Explorer, please join us at our "First Nighter" Orientation Event! Any potential Explorers and their parents are invited to attend. The event will be held on September 21st at 6:00 pm at the St Louis Park Police Department (3015 Raleigh Ave S). Food will be provided and attendees will take part in several fun police related activities. You will also have the opportunity to learn more about the program, meet the Advisors, and hear from Police Chief Harcey.

ACT PREPARATORY COURSES:
Beginning in September and again in November, St. Louis Park Community Education in cooperation with Advantage Educational Programs will present ACT prep courses to students from St. Louis Park High School. Three different course formats allow students to choose the course that best suits their learning styles and personal circumstances. Students will also be able to make up any classes that they miss and all courses may be repeated online at no additional charge.
In-School ACT Prep Course: Traditional classroom format with an in-person instructor. Classes meet one day each week at St. Louis Park High School. The early fall classes are primarily reserved for 12th-grade students, and the late fall classes for 11th-grade students, but both courses are open to students from either 11th or 12th grades. Tuition is $150.

ACE Mentorship Program Information |
|
Have an interest in architecture, construction, or engineering? If so, the ACE Mentorship Program is a great opportunity to explore these careers. The program pairs students with working professionals to gain exposure to these fields. After school, once a week, students will work with mentors from several local companies to plan, design and model a unique structure or site. In the spring, students will then compete against other student groups from around the area. The ACE Mentorship Program sponsors many scholarship opportunities. Each year that we have participated students have earned several thousand dollars to go toward an education in these fields.
