SLP boys swimming finished Second at sections this past weekend, with multiple swimmers earning a medal for top 8. The med relay of Henry Salita, Miles Nordling, Hiro McKee, and Miles Rost finished third. In the 200 free Andre Barajas finished 3rd and Henry Berg finished 8th. In the 200 IM Hiro McKee finished fourth with a state qualifying time. In the 100 Fly Hiro McKee finished 2nd with a state qualifying time and Daniel Cameron finished 5th. In the 100 free Miles Nordling finished 3rd with a state qualifying time. In the 500 free Andre Barajas finished 4th with a state qualifying time, Henry Berg finished 7th and Finn Berry finished 8th. In the 100 back Magnus Smith finished 6th and Henry Salita finished 8th. In the 100 breaststroke Miles Nordling finished 3rd. The 400 free relay of Andre Barajas, Henry Berg, Hiro McKee and Miles Nordling finished 3rd. SLP will look for a strong finish at the state meet this weekend at the U of M. |

The Writing Lab recently trained over 60 students to become Peer Writing Coaches!
We are super proud of them for taking initiative to ask how they can empower their peers’ writing voices. The Lab is growing into a beautiful community with the care, curiosity, and creativity of each coach. Thank you! (Students can drop by the Learning Lab [A202] during their study hall or after school for the Orioles’ Nest to work with a Peer Writing Coach.)

During February I Love to Read Month, students Got Caught Reading! Students who were observed reading received a ticket which they could enter into a drawing for a free slushie at the Storiole. Congratulations to the following three winners: Nadia Bereh, Georgia Hughes and Jack Lanoux! Here are some photos of students who Got Caught Reading this month. |

March is Women’s History Month. Students can celebrate by reading one of the many titles in this Herstory Collection (requires an SLPHS Google login) which highlights female perspectives in nonfiction and fiction.

On February 23, thirty -four students from Mr. Miller’s Engineering classes had an opportunity to visit the Hennepin Technical College in Eden Prairie and Toro Headquarters in Bloomington to hear from multiple Engineers, Drafting and Design professionals. The students toured part of the facility and engaged in dialogue with several experts in their field at Toro.

What is Ultimate Frisbee?
Ultimate is a dynamic fast-paced sport that combines many aspects of football, basketball, and soccer played with a frisbee. Ultimate continues to be one of the fastest growing sports in America, and Minnesota leads the way with more youth players than any other state!
SLPHS has an Ultimate club with multiple teams for girls and boys. The season runs March-early June and is about to begin.

St. Louis Park Public Schools 2022 Minnesota Student Survey |
|
Our school district is inviting students in the 6th through 11th grades to participate in the 2022 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). This survey is voluntary and has been conducted in schools across our state every three years since 1989. The survey is anonymous and confidential. The privacy of students is protected, as students do not provide their names, student identification numbers, or other personal information. No individual or their families can be identified. The results are reported on our students as a whole.
Questions on the survey are about many topics relating to young people’s lives. The survey asks about how well school is going, future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use, and more. High school students are also asked about sexual behavior. This information is used by communities and schools to develop effective programs and provide better services for students.
The survey is administered online. Students will have the ability to read the questions or have the questions read to them through the technology they use to access the survey. The survey takes approximately 45 minutes, or one class period, to complete.
Our school district has informed parents of such surveys in the past and now federal law also requires us to notify parents of this school activity. The Minnesota Student Survey (MSS) will be administered in our middle school and high school from April 4th through April 8th, 2022. You are welcome to review a copy of the survey at: https://mnstudentsurvey.org/instruments For additional support on how to review the survey, or if you have any questions about the survey, please contact Dr. Becca Starr, Assessment and Research Specialist at: 952-928-6022 or starr.rebecca@slpschools.org.
Students may also decline to take any part of the survey, or the whole survey, and are informed of that option by staff on the day of survey administration. If you do not want your student to participate in the Minnesota Student Survey, please know that we will be sharing links to a passive consent form/notice to parents by mid-March with a reminder that this survey will be administered in April. These forms will allow you to opt your student out of the survey.
