64 SECONDS to Learn Up To 25 THINGS about St. Louis Park High School

1: From the Interim Principal
|
|
Greetings SLP Families,
This has been an emotional week, on top of an already unimaginable school year! As our entire country attempts to process the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trail, I want you, as parents and caregivers, to know what we provided for our students to help them begin to process the verdict.
In SLP, we encourage all students and staff to engage in courageous conversations about race by agreeing to stay engaged, speak your truth, experience discomfort, and expect and accept non-closure. We provided sentence starters in Park CONNECTIONS today to help students think about and express their beliefs, thoughts, feelings and actions.
We started with feelings and asked students to choose a sentence starter and share, if comfortable, when it was their turn.
|
|
Next, we let students talk about what they were thinking and listen to the thoughts of others.
|
|
Third, we encouraged students to think about their own beliefs about the verdict of the trail, and listen to the beliefs of others.
|
|
And lastly, students were given a chance to think about what they wanted to do next and then listen to their classmates.
|
|
I hope these prompts provide possibilities for rich conversations in your homes as we all move forward throughout this time right here in Minneapolis, MN.
Kindly,
Wendy Loberg
Interim Principal

|
On behalf of SOAR, we would like to thank everyone who supported the walkout on Monday.

5: Free Groceries for Families who Qualify
|
|
Free Groceries for Families Who Qualified for Free or Reduced-Price Meals During the 2020-21 School Year
Families in our district who qualify for free or reduced-price meals are now eligible for additional emergency nutritional benefits offered from the Federal government.
These benefits are provided by Federal “Pandemic-Electronic Benefit Transfer” funds (P-EBT); a temporary food benefit to families with children who would have received free and reduced-price meals if schools were open. These additional benefits may be retroactive to September 2020, depending on when eligibility for free or reduced-meals is determined.
Families who qualify will receive separate electronic grocery cards for each student in the family. The cards would include funds (approximately $6.82/day) for each day your student was in distance learning during the school year. Cards will be mailed from the State of Minnesota.
If you have already qualified for free or reduced-price meals earlier this school year, you don’t need to do anything because your family will automatically receive these new Federal nutritional benefits.

New Quarantine Guidance for Fully-Vaccinated Individuals
If someone has completed COVID-19 vaccination (two doses in a two-dose series or one dose in a one-dose series) and is exposed to COVID-19, they do not need to quarantine if BOTH of the following are true:
- The COVID-19 exposure was at least 14 days after their vaccination series was fully completed.
- They do not currently have any symptoms of COVID-19.
If a fully vaccinated person develops symptoms at any time they will continue to follow exclusion guidelines set forth by MDH. They may return to work after either isolating for 10 days OR receiving a negative COVID test result OR an alternate diagnosis from a health care provider.
Fully vaccinated individuals should still continue to stay distanced, wear a mask that fits well, wash their hands often, and follow other precautions.
Information Regarding Allergy/Cold/Flu Season
Some symptoms of general illnesses such as seasonal allergies, colds, and/or flu overlap with symptoms of COVID-19. If a parent/guardian believes their student has any illness, which displays the same symptoms as COVID-19, the student and other household members are not allowed to attend school until:
- The symptomatic student tests negative for COVID-19.
- An alternative diagnosis is received from the student’s health care provider.
If the student with symptoms does not test for COVID-19, or receive an alternate diagnosis from their health care provider, they would need to isolate at home for 10 days and household members would follow the 14 day quarantine protocol.
