Greetings Orioles!
We had a lot to celebrate as the SLP HS football team took home the ‘W’ this past Friday! I stand strongly behind the belief that when one of us wins, we all win. Our collective responsibility to do better together allows us to lean into adversity, empower each other and win as a united community. When you reflect on the idea of winning, I hope you see how important it is to build each other up, create opportunities to support each other and celebrate our victories as a one. As we head into next week, look for opportunities to do better as a community. Because when you do better, I do better...we all do better together. Ubuntu!

Congratulations SLPHS Band -West Metro All Conference |
|
Congratulations to the following SLPHS band students on their acceptance in the 2021 West Metro All-Conference Band: Gunnar Anderson (oboe), John Lawrence (F horn), Ramona Mavis (F Horn), Louise Marshall (alto saxophone), Jacob Nelson (percussion), and Semona Robel (flute)!
On Tuesday, September 28th, these seven students travel to Chanhassen High School with the most accomplished band students from the ten high schools in our conference. They will rehearse all day, in full band, and sectionals, with Dr. Erika Svanoe of Augsburg University. They will perform works by John Philip Sousa, Dr. Andrew Boysen Jr., and Dr. Erika Svanoe. The full ensemble puts on a performance, after only five hours of work, at 5pm. The cost is $5 and the location is the Chanhassen Performing Arts Center.

Parent Pickup Update:
Parents and caregivers, please make sure to use the front entrance (Door 1) area for picking up your student(s) at dismissal. After school pickup is prohibited in the south lot in front of the athletic entrance. Use of this lot disrupts our ability to effectively transport students to athletic events and competitions because it causes congestion and buses cannot pass through. Thank you for your cooperation.

Senior photo submissions are due October 22nd.

New Format for Submitting Student Absences |
|
Students are expected to be in class every hour, every school day.
For the school year 2021-2022, we are piloting an attendance form. If your student will be absent from school for any reason, please submit the attendance form (https://bit.ly/3Ctay26), within 24 hours. Please be prepared to report the following information: student name, grade, date of absence, reason for absence and your name/relationship. Any absence not excused within 24 hours will remain unexcused. Students can not excuse themselves.

The Echowan (Yearbook) will be hosting free senior pictures for use in our 2021-2022 yearbook on Monday, 9/27 and Tuesday, 9/28 in room B135. Please fill out the Googleform on the link below to schedule a time.

Advanced Placement (AP)* Exam Registration It’s a TWO STEP process!!
Both steps must be completed before November 12 to be successfully Registered!
STEP ONE: Exam Registration must be completed through https://myap.collegeboard.org/ Students receive join codes from their AP teachers or from Mrs. LaPray for Non-class exams
STEP TWO: Exam Payment or request for a fee waiver for AP Exam must be completed through Total Registration** https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/242205
Payment rates as follows:
● September 27 -October 15 (11:59pm) - $70
● October 16 - October 31(11:59pm) - $100
● November 1 - November 12 (11:59pm) - $140
● A Fee waiver for cost of exam can be obtained for students who receive Free/Reduced Lunch
● Students unpaid after November 12 will be moved to not testing status
**Students who receive Free/Reduced Lunch must request the waiver through Total Registration prior to November 12 https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/242205
Exams cancelled after November 12 will be assessed a $45 cancellation fee.
Don’t let the cost of exams keep you from taking part! Students who would like to take an AP exam, but for whom the cost is prohibitive, should contact their Counselor or the Testing Coordinator about grants to help cover the fee.

Mobile Youth Outreach Center |

We had a visit this week from the Mobile Youth Outreach Center (see attached flyer with details on what they provide).
This bus will be coming once a month to support student needs during all 3 lunches.

KIDS IN THE PARK RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM CRITERIA
Criteria for participating households:
Must be currently be leasing rental housing in St. Louis Park (no shared housing) or housed in rental housing within SLP in the last 12 months;
Have a child or children enrolled/attending a SLP/Hopkins school (online school allowed if due to COVID)
One parent must be employed a minimum of 28 hours per week, unless decreased hours due to COVID
Household must not currently be receiving any other housing assistance
Annual income must be at or below 50% area medium income (AMI) at intake, income must be below 100% AMI at annual re-certification.
Rental payments must be current with landlord
Parents must meet with STEP staff for an economic and social needs analysis, plan establishment, service referral, and case management, as necessary
Parents/Guardians must be active participant in child’s educational progress demonstrated by attending conferences or participating in other equivalent activities
Income Requirement: Current 50% AMI income eligibility requirements by household size.

Rent Assistance: Households receive rent assistance based on their bedroom size. The rent assistance is a flat payment based on a percentage of HUD’s Fair Market Rents. The amount of assistance decreases annually.

Sign the Release of Information and Data Privacy Statement
Sign the Participation Agreement and fulfill obligations laid out in agreement
Schedule and attend appointment with STEP each month
Provide any information requested by SLP HA, STEP, or school district related to eligibility
