Greetings SLP Families,
Relationships are very important to me and to all of us at SLP. As your new Interim High School Principal, I have truly enjoyed forming new relationships with my colleagues, my staff and the many students I've met. I have also loved "meeting" many of you in either our Town Hall meetings or one of our four grade level virtual parent nights.
Two important people on my administrative team are my assistant principals, Todd Goggleye and Jessica Busse. You've seen and read much about who I am, but I wish for you to meet Todd and Jessica, too. They are both working extremely hard to adapt to a new principal and make plans for our students to have a great year, no matter what format we are in. This week, let's hear from Todd Goggleye:

Hello SLP Families, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself. I am excited to be starting my third year as Assistant Principal at St. Louis Park High School. While this is a new venture for me, I have had many years in a variety of educational roles beginning as a Physical Education teacher in the Minneapolis Public School District, Interim Assistant Principal in the Robbinsdale Public School District and Principal at Willmar Kennedy Elementary. I was also fortunate enough to work as a Principal in the St. Paul Public School District.
This educational experience has inspired me to build a culture on student learning.
My Native American culture has driven my passion for restorative practices and I strongly believe in fostering relationships with staff, students, families and community.
Personally, I am an avid Minnesota sports fan, golfer and motorcycle enthusiast. Skol Vikings!
I appreciate all the hard work and support from Principal Loberg and Assistant Principal Busse, especially around scheduling and planning for the upcoming school year. I'm excited about this year and I am committed to creating a positive academic, social and emotional environment for every student through this challenging time.

Oriole Students and Families,
Please take part in your Homecoming Celebration - socially distanced version! Throughout the week there will be dress codes, virtual events, and a couple of small socially distanced events. There is a flyer attached for your reference as well.
On Monday, the celebration begins with a Jersey Day spirit dress code.
On Tuesday, dress in your best Groutfit (fully grey outfit), and between the home girls and boys soccer matches, the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned and the royalty announced. Those in attendance at the soccer games with passes or let in after 20 minutes to capacity, or as 2 guests of each royalty member will be let into the stadium. Everyone else please stay tuned to @slpsctudentcouncil_ for the result!
On Wednesday, please view the Virtual Talent Show put together by our Student Council and don your best retro outfit. Students and staff will vote and the winner will receive a $50 gift card of their choice. To submit an entry this weekend to the show, simply email a short video of your talent to Ms. Lindenberg (lindenberg.sarah@slpschools.org).
On Thursday, there will be a Pickleball Tournament on the tennis courts at 6:30 p.m. To sign up, visit @slpstudentcouncil_ on instagram and be sure to wear your brightest neon. Masks are required for the Pickleball Tournament.
On Friday, decorate the city by participating in our first ever Park Pride Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest Selfie! On the sidewalk outside your house or in a nearby park, create a message about Park Pride and post it to instagram tagging @slpstudentcouncil_ and you could also be the winner of a $50 gift card of your choice. And, as always, sport your Park Pride gear on any Friday! :)

This year, 2021 seniors will be able to submit their own portrait free of charge. Seniors MUST submit their chosen portrait through the Google Form provided on the Echowan website, under the senior pictures tab, ensuring that it meets all requirements.
Portraits can be professionally taken through a senior shoot, or you can use any photo you like! We also have many Echowan photographers on staff that would be more than happy to take senior pictures for free. Please contact us through email at echowan2021@gmail.com if you would like to choose this option and we will set you up with one of our photographers.
ALL SENIOR PICTURES MUST BE SUBMITTED THROUGH THE FORM BY OCTOBER 21ST!

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 – Virtual Event 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.
Seniors (class of 2021) statewide are invited to attend Super College Saturday! This is a half-day event for seniors to learn about the college admission process. All seniors are invited, particularly those that are first-generation or underrepresented. Sessions are 45 minutes each and students can pick and choose which sessions they attend throughout the day.

- "Hot Topics" Panel with College Admission Representatives

*The PSAT is to qualify students for National Merit Scholarships when taken during 11th grade. Students who are in the top third of their class and/or have over a 3.0 GPA are encouraged to take the test. Tenth graders who are in the top 25% of their class should consider taking the test as well as a practice for 11th grade. The PSAT can also be used as a practice test for the SAT.

The MAP(NWEA) Reading and Math tests will be given to Freshmen and Sophomores remotely on Wednesdays during October beginning at 9:00am. Teachers administering the exams will contact students prior to exam day with login and testing details.

MSHSL Approves Football and Volleyball for Fall Competition; Registration Now Open
The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Board of Directors voted to approve high school football and volleyball competition during the fall season at its Monday, September 21 meeting. Based on the decision, football and volleyball teams will be able to begin practicing on Monday, September 28.
Registration for these two high school sports is now open on www.gopark.org. All student-athletes must be registered before they can start practicing. Any questions can be directed to Athletic Director Andy Ewald at ewald.andrew@slpschools.org or 952-928-6118.

PEAC meetings are with the principals and various timely guests to learn the latest about what's going on at the high school, share insights and connect with other parents to help support students. This group also supports teacher appreciation and conference meals.

Free Meals for Kids During Distance Learning |
|
While the District is in a distance learning educational delivery model, students and families will be able to pick up FREE MEALS (breakfast and lunch) at any of the six schools on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. In accordance with USDA guidelines, you must be a parent or guardian of a child (birth to 18) in the District in order to pick up these grab-and-go bag meals.
