Hello Park Families,
This week, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet several more of our amazing students and parents. I had the privilege of assisting with the crowning of our Homecoming King and Queen, together with our Student Council Advisor, Sarah Lindenberg, at our Homecoming Coronation on Tuesday night. Our new king is Zaid Yusuf and our queen is Lilly Strathman. It was a beautiful night, out there on our amazing stadium field, and our small ceremony took place between the girls and boys soccer games. See photos of all the SLP Homecoming Royalty here:

This year, 2021 seniors will be able to submit their own portrait free of charge. Seniors MUST submit their chosen portrait through the Google Form provided on the Echowan website, under the senior pictures tab, ensuring that it meets all requirements.
Portraits can be professionally taken through a senior shoot, or you can use any photo you like! We also have many Echowan photographers on staff that would be more than happy to take senior pictures for free. Please contact us through email at echowan2021@gmail.com if you would like to choose this option and we will set you up with one of our photographers.

Minnesota Goes to College |

It's College Knowledge Month! October in Minnesota kicks off the college application season with many Minnesota colleges offering no-fee college applications. October 1 is also the opening date for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Minnesota Dream Act Application. There are many online resources and training opportunities for educators, parents and students happening this month outlined below.

Register for Super College Saturday |

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 – Virtual Event 11:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m.
Seniors (class of 2021) statewide are invited to attend Super College Saturday! This is a half-day event for seniors to learn about the college admission process. All seniors are invited, particularly those that are first-generation or underrepresented. Sessions are 45 minutes each and students can pick and choose which sessions they attend throughout the day.
Topics will include:
- Financial Aid & Paying for College
- "Hot Topics" Panel with College Admission Representatives
- The Value of Two Year Colleges/Transfer Process
- The College Search
- Understanding Holistic Review in Highly Selective Admissions

Virtual US Service Academies Information Night |

The Office of Congressman Dean Phillips is hosting a Virtual U.S. Service Academies Information Night with representatives from all five service academies. Students and families will be able to learn and ask questions about the academy experience and the nominations process as well. We are encouraging counselors to share this flyer with students who may be interested.

Want to earn a college degree? Looking for free support and personalized coaching? Applications are open for the College Possible high school class of 2022! College Possible is a national college access and success organization with over 20 years of experience supporting students as they earn their college degrees.
Application requirements:
Academics: At least a 2.0 GPA (unweighted)
Income: Free and Reduced Lunch (FRL) or Pell Eligible
Aspiration: Desire to attend a 4-year school
Commitment: Willing to attend virtual sessions and consistently communicate
There is NO citizenship requirement

Important reminder about immunizations for students:
It is important for your student to stay current on immunizations, especially during this time. Staying up-to-date on immunizations is one important way to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Check now with your family doctor or clinic to see if your student(s) has all the immunizations required for their age.

- Will be open every Wednesday afternoon from 1-4:30pm
- Will only see patients for vaccine visits
- Will not be administering COVID testing at Central
- Will not be administering immunizations for patients who are positive for COVID symptoms
- Patients can continue to schedule phone visits for other medical needs as appropriate
- All patients and visitors must wear a mask
- Students are only allowed one adult guardian into their visit. Other visitors should remain outside the clinic
- All persons will be screened upon arrival to the lobby, or at check-in
- Social distancing guidelines will be posted and the lobby arranged to support this effort
- When appropriate, the patient can be scheduled for a virtual phone visit
The St. Louis Park School District has joined the growing number of school districts throughout the state of Minnesota who strive for immunization compliance. If the student receives an immunization during the school year; send by mail, fax, or drop off at the school documentation of the shot(s) received.
Minnesota Statutes Section 121A.15 requires children enrolled in a Minnesota school to be immunized against certain diseases, or file a legal medical or conscientious exemption. This form is designed to provide the school with information required by the law.

Due to the extension of Distance Learning, the PSAT has been postponed.
The new test date will be January 26, 2021
Students who have already registered for the PSAT will automatically be enrolled for the January exam.
Students who have not registered can still register.

- Students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch can request a fee waiver when

Details about the January PSAT will be shared as they become available from College Board.
*The PSAT is to qualify students for National Merit Scholarships when taken during 11th grade. Students who are in the top third of their class and/or have over a 3.0 GPA are encouraged to take the test.
Tenth graders who are in the top 25% of their class should consider taking the test as well as a practice for 11t h grade. The PSAT can also be used as a practice test for the SAT.

Fall MAP (NWEA) Testing for 9th & 10th Graders Will Take Place
in October
|

The MAP(NWEA) Reading and Math tests will be given to Freshmen and Sophomores remotely on Wednesdays during October beginning at 9:00am. Teachers administering the exams will contact students prior to exam day with login and testing details.
October 7 - Reading Test
October 14 - Make up Reading Test
October 21 - Math Test
October 28 - Make up Math Test
This test is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Registration is a Two Step Process |

Both steps must be completed to be successfully Registered!
STEP ONE: Exam Registration must be completed through https://myap.collegeboard.org/. Students have received join codes from their teachers and should have already completed this task.
● September 21 -October 21 (3:10pm) - $70
● October 21 (3:11pm) - November 4 (3:10pm) - $100
● November 4 (3:11pm) - November 11 (3:10pm) - $140
● Students unpaid after 3:10pm, November 11 will be moved to not testing status
Students who receive Free/Reduced Lunch must go through Total Registration** https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/242205 before November 11 to request a waiver.

Varsity Football Tickets
The Minnesota Department of Health is only allowing a maximum of 250 spectators for outdoor gatherings. With that, St. Louis Park will only have 125 fans (half the tickets) at home and away games. Those 125 tickets will be distributed weekly to the families of the 10th, 11th and 12th grade players. If there are tickets left they will become available via a lottery with the Athletic Department the day before the game. There will be no tickets sold at the games.

Boys Hockey - 18 games, 16 week season
Boys Basketball - 18 games, 17 week season
11/30 Start
Boys Swimming - 11 meets, 13 week season.
Girls Hockey - 18 games, 16 week season
Nordic Ski - 11 meets, 14 week season. No more than 3 schools at a meet.
12/7 Start
Girls Basketball - 18 games, 17 week season
Gymnastics - 11 meets, 14 week season. No more than 3 schools at a meet.
No invites, no tournaments. All schedules will be with schools within our Conference, Region/ Section or close proximity.
We will get more information (spectators, event management, practice requirements, etc.) at a later point from the MSHSL and MDH.

PEAC meetings are with the principals and various timely guests to learn the latest about what's going on at the high school, share insights and connect with other parents to help support students. This group also supports teacher appreciation and conference meals.

KARE 11's #eyesUP High School PSA Challenge |

Help reduce distracted driving in our communities by joining the KARE 11 #eyesUP Distracted Driving Campaign.
For the third year, KARE 11 is asking high schools in the KARE 11 viewing area to take the #eyesUP High School PSA Challenge. This year, they are doing things differently and asking you to do this individually or with the members of your household. This is a chance to use your voice, creativity, and your storytelling skills to make your own Public Service Announcement (PSA) that could air on KARE 11!

Need To Miss Class?
Whether for an appointment or illness, all absences must be excused within 24 hours through the Attendance Line at 952-928-6045. Students are encouraged to also notify their teachers they will be missing class; this is different than excusing an absence. Only legal guardians may excuse absences and please do so in advance as much as possible. Thank you!

Free Meals for Kids During Distance Learning |
|
While the District is in a distance learning educational delivery model, students and families will be able to pick up FREE MEALS (breakfast and lunch) at any of the six schools on Mondays and Wednesdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. In accordance with USDA guidelines, you must be a parent or guardian of a child (birth to 18) in the District in order to pick up these grab-and-go bag meals.
