7 SLP STUDENTS NAMED AS COMMENDED STUDENTS IN THE 2021 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
As published earlier, SLP celebrated 5 National Merit Semi-Finalists, but I also wish to publicly announce and celebrate the accomplishments of the following 7 students, who were named as 2021 COMMENDED STUDENTS in the National Merit Scholarship program.
RYAN BARNETT, KEELY BERNTSEN, BENJAMIN CANTOR, JACK FREDRICKSON, ELIZABETH KNISER, MEREDITH REISE, and LEAH RICHARDSON all earned Commended Student status, based on a national Selection Index score of 209, applicable to all participants without regard to state-by-state distribution.
These scholastically talented seniors have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success and placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 PSAT exam. Congratulations on these amazing academic achievements, and best wishes to all as decisions are made regarding plans following graduation.

2: Main Gym Improvements are Complete

After months of construction, our main gym opens this Friday. The new floor looks spectacular and the raised and painted ceilings provide for a much more open design. |

Get assistance at SLP High School during hybrid and distance learning:
- Get teacher support using the Student Support Time App (slp.studentsupporttime.com)
- Talk to your Connections teacher about Wednesday tutoring in the cafeteria 8:00am-3:30pm
- Get help/support virtually or in person in the Learning Lab
- Mental health support is available
- Join student groups

7: Breakfast and Lunch Meal Bag Pick Up Schedule 11/4-11/18
|
|
Students at school on hybrid days are invited to take home a bag of meals for the week. There is no cost. The bags are available for pick up from 3:05-3:25 at the main door and auditorium door on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during hybrid learning.
Outside Breakfast and lunch meal bag pick up schedule 11/9-11/18:

Wednesday 11/11 11:45am-12:45pm
Wednesday 11/18 10:00am-1:30pm
On Wednesdays families can also pick up a non-perishable bag of food donated from Sheridan Story

8: Lunch Schedule On Hybrid Days

During hybrid there are 3 lunch shifts during 5th hour.

9: Central Clinic Information
|
|
Central Clinic is now open. For general Central Clinic information, Click Here
- Will be open every Wednesday afternoon from 1-4:30pm
- Will only see patients for vaccine visits
- Will not be administering COVID testing at Central
- Will not be administering immunizations for patients who are positive for COVID symptoms
- Patients can continue to schedule phone visits for other medical needs as appropriate
- All patients and visitors must wear a mask
- Students are only allowed one adult guardian into their visit. Other visitors should remain outside the clinic
- All persons will be screened upon arrival to the lobby, or at check-in
- Social distancing guidelines will be posted and the lobby arranged to support this effort
- When appropriate, the patient can be scheduled for a virtual phone visit

St. Paul Testing Site Will Offer Free Saliva COVID Tests to Anyone Who Needs It
The Minnesota Department of Health is offering Minnesotans more and different options for COVID=19 testing by offering saliva testing in a growing number of locations across the state. The test is more comfortable than a nasal swab, and available at no cost to anyone who believes they need a COVID-19 test. Click here for more information.

Registration ends Wednesday, November 11, 2020
STEP ONE: Exam Registration must be completed through https://myap.collegeboard.org/ Students have received join codes from their teachers and should have already completed this task.
*Advanced Placement (College Board) and International Baccalaureate are different entities - registration and payment must be completed separately.
** Answer all questions completely to avoid late fees caused by registration mistakes

Please go to gradsmn.org to order your cap and gown now. There is no charge to families. We order our cap and gowns from Jostens and due to the situation with the pandemic, they need to have this information as soon as possible. 13: Successful Band Fundraiser!
|
|
The SLPHS Bands did their 7th Annual Mattress Fundraiser this past Saturday, 10/31. It was held from 10am-5pm at the Custom Fundraising Solutions Warehouse in Maple Grove. Thank you to the 30 students and few parents who volunteered that day to direct people to our sale. Thank you to all band families who promoted the sale in any way. We sold 17 mattresses, during a pandemic and not on our home turf. Though the number and profit (estimated at $2K) is about half of a normal year, that is considered good in these circumstances. Go Park Bands!

20: SLP Library - Place Your Own Holds
|
|
If you'd like to borrow books from the SLPHS Library Media Center, and pick them up in a no-contact manner, see the instructions in the link below. Books will be placed in a bag with the borrower's name on it, and placed on a table or cart in the enclosed entrance foyer of the High School. SLP Students already have the accounts created that allow this, and their school library login is the same as for their familiar school accounts.

22: "Employee Relief 2020-21" Shows Our Appreciation
|
|
We appreciate all our staff and all our teachers! To recognize how hard everyone is working and make life a little easier, we started Employee Relief 2020-21. Every few weeks all staff and teachers at SLPHS are invited to enter their name into the Employee Relief Prize Drawing. Prizes have included $50 @Wok In The Park, $50 @Mexico City Cafe and a Google Home Mini. (Want to donate? Contact Jennifer Thomas) To enter the drawing, staff simply respond to an email about the work they're doing, how they've helped students or a highlight of their week. Last week staff and teachers that were in the building for Freshman Orientation shared their highlights of the day. It was great to hear how meaningful and FUN the day was for staff, teachers and students! Here are a few of the responses:
- The highlight was seeing how each class already has its own social dynamic, and putting faces with names!
- Actually seeing faces of my students that don't have their cameras on during our Zooms
- I loved hearing my Spanish I students speak Spanish
- It was soooo AWESOME seeing and talking with my students!
- Highlight was seeing the mentors helping and the energy of the students
- It was great to answer students' questions and hopefully ease their anxiety.
- I recognized all of my students despite masks and was able to call them by name.
