Be Express Lane Ready!

U.S. 69 from 103rd Street to 151st Street in Overland Park, Kan, is being widened from four to six lanes (three lanes in each direction). One new lane in each direction will be a tolled express lane - the other lanes will remain free. The express lanes are designed to keep traffic moving and provide a more reliable option during busy times.

Things to know:

  • The existing lanes will remain free.
  • There will be one northbound and one southbound express lane on the 6-mile corridor from 103rd Street to 151st Street. Entry and exit points will be noted by dashed lines on the pavement, as well as overhead signs.
  • Express lanes will be open to all vehicles
  • Express lanes will be separated from the free lanes with a buffer and a wide, double white line.
  • Northbound and southbound traffic will be separated by a concrete barrier.
  • Vehicles in the express lanes are identified by a compatible transponder, like KTAG, or by an image of their license plate.
  • There will be no toll booths.

Express lanes will open in January 2026.  Be ready!

Construction News

June aerial photo of U.S. 69 at 167th Street work

The 167th interchange work continues, with deck paving complete on the new U.S. 69 northbound bridge over 167th Street. 167th Street will be expanded to four lanes and include roundabouts at the U.S. 69 and 167th Street intersection and will add south-facing ramps to and from both directions of U.S. 69. The 167th Street closure will remain in place through early October.

Variable toll message signs have been installed in some locations and will show test messages until the express lanes open to traffic. KDOT appreciates drivers' patience and awareness while navigating the work zone.

Long-term closures are in effect for several ramps at I-435/U.S. 69/College Blvd. as bridge reconstruction continues. Please follow the marked detours and be patient with fellow drivers.
