2025 Construction Highlights

An aerial view of the U.S. 69 and Blue Valley Parkway interchange in December 2025.

A December 2025 aerial photo shows the final configuration of the U.S. 69 and Blue Valley Parkway interchange.

Construction on 69Express progressed rapidly in 2025 as the project team worked toward completion. Here are some project highlights:

  • Approximately 120 people were on site on any given day during peak construction.
  • Approximately 380,000 person-hours were logged in 2025.
  • 450,000 cubic yards of rock and dirt were moved in 2025 – the equivalent of 45,000 truckloads!
  • To date, 1,400,000 square yards of concrete pavement have been poured throughout the corridor.
  • To date, 41,961 linear feet of noise wall panels have been installed. It took approximately 24,408 lbs. of paint to fully cover the panels!

The project is on track to be substantially complete by the end of 2025, almost 10 months ahead of the original schedule. The 69Express lanes are planned to open in early 2026! Read below to get prepared to use the express lanes.

Be Express Lane Ready!

U.S. 69 from 103rd Street to 151st Street in Overland Park, Kan., is being widened from two to three lanes in each direction. One new lane in each direction will be a tolled express lane; the other lanes will remain free. The express lanes are designed to keep traffic moving and provide a more reliable option during busy travel times.

Things to know:

  • The two existing lanes will remain free.
  • There will be one northbound and one southbound express lane on the 6-mile corridor. Entry and exit points will be marked by dashed lines on the pavement and by overhead signs.
  • Express lanes will be open to all vehicles.
  • Express lanes will be separated from the free lanes with a buffer and wide, double white lines.
  • Northbound and southbound traffic will be separated by a concrete barrier.
  • Vehicles in the express lanes will be identified by a compatible transponder, like KTAG, or by an image of their license plate.
  • There will be no toll booths.

Meet the Team

Join the 69Express team at the project’s final open house public meeting in February 2026. KDOT will share project updates and information on how to use the express lanes. The project team will be on hand to answer questions about the new express lanes, which will go live in early 2026. You can also get a KTAG and sign up for a DriveKS account.  The meeting date will be finalized soon. Keep an eye out for the event invitation!

The project team also has an upcoming engagement opportunity. Look for us:

  • Jan. 9 at the 119th and Metcalf Price Chopper from 4 to 7 p.m.

Watch for more events as they are added (69Express.org/Newsroom/Events). Let us know if you would like a presentation on U.S. 69 work to your group or organization.
