69Express Ribbon Cutting

Partners, community members and government leaders gathered on Feb. 17 to cut the ribbon on the U.S. 69 Modernization and Expansion Project. This event celebrated a major milestone for the region. After years of planning and collaboration, the project now brings smoother, more reliable travel to one of Overland Park's busiest corridors.

Express Lane Public Open House

Attendees “drive” the corridor in an interactive table display at the 69Express public open house.

Attendees got the chance to “drive” the corridor early in an interactive display.

The 69Express project team welcomed a great crowd last week as neighbors stopped by to check out the latest project updates and learn more about how the express lanes will work when the lanes open Feb. 21.

Many attendees visited the Kansas Turnpike Authority table, where staff helped them sign up for KTAGs on the spot. These neighbors left the event ready for the road, with their new DriveKS accounts set up. Throughout the night, the community’s excitement was clear. Through hands-on displays and conversations with our team, the event showed how much the region looks forward to more reliable trips on U.S. 69

The KTA team in action! Fifty-seven public open house attendees left with new DriveKS accounts.

If you missed the Public Open House on Feb. 11, you can view the presentation slides and maps at the Virtual Open House. To continue to share your thoughts on the project, please fill out our Survey.

Construction Updates

The contractor is finishing the final stages of the project. This spring, crews will be:

  • Planting grass (seeding and sod) along the corridor.
  • Finishing work on the Tomahawk Creek Trail
  • Completing minor bridge and pavement work overnight.

Note: The Tomahawk Creek Trail remains closed until we install safety handrails.

Express Lane Signage

We’ve unveiled new overhead signs along 69Express just in time for tomorrow’s opening. These signs will guide you through the updated corridor with clear, real-time information for a safer and more efficient trip.

The new signage helps you:

  • Identify exactly where to enter and exit the express lanes safely.
  • Understand lane assignments at a glance.
  • Navigate the corridor with less confusion and smoother traffic flow.

Check out these real-life examples of the new signs:
