6th Annual Clay Target Tournament Fundraiser for Oregon Logging Conference Foundation

and Brother In Arms

This year at the annual fundraiser, the Oregon Logging Conference Foundation (OLCF) partnered with Brothers in Arms, raising money for both scholarships and financial assistance for Curt Rogers, who is fighting a battle with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

23 teams and many generous sponsors helped raise more than $65,000 this year at the fundraiser, which was held on September 6th at Creswell Clay Target Sports in Creswell, OR.

“Once again this event was a huge success and we had a wonderful turnout for our joint fundraising efforts,” said OLC Manager Rikki Wellman. “This group of people always comes together to help support the future of the logging industry and other worthy causes,” she added.

Participating teams rotated through the course and for each broken “bird” clay target, one point was awarded to the individual who shot it. In addition to paid registration, participants had the option to buy “do-over” tickets for missed rounds.

The fundraiser included breakfast and lunch catered by Chapala’s Catering, with breakfast sponsored by Sierra Pacific Industries and lunch sponsored by Papé Kenworth, beverages sponsored by Modern Machinery, an auction, and an opportunity drawing.

Program Planning Underway

As topics and speakers for seminars and panel discussions at the 87th Annual Oregon Logging Conference are being arranged, attendees next year will notice one name change of the Friday morning forest practice seminars

The Friday morning seminar will have a new title: Friday Morning Forestry Talks, and this session will include topics of importance such as timber supply, private forest accord updates, and stream rules.

One panel will be a Fire School Certification, taught by Douglas County Forest Protective Association Industrial Fire Prevention Forester Mike Jackson.

This 2 ½ hour class will be presented from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Wheeler Pavilion on Friday, February 20, 2025. Class size is limited to the first 200 individuals to register. No pre-sign up is available for this class.

Also, on Friday there will be a four-hour First Aid Certification class, held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This class will be limited to the first 75 registered members who attend. No pre-sign up is available for this class.

Registered companies and individuals can earn credits, including continuing education credits, for attending the OLC equipment show.

Planning continues for a hands-on seminar from the Oregon Department of Transportation in the General Trailers’ outdoor exhibit area, the Washington Forest Practices Act seminars, and the specific topic of the Log Roll-Out, sponsored by Roseburg Forest Products.

There will be a mill tour again next year, hosted by Swanson Group in Springfield, OR. A shuttle van will leave the fairgrounds on Thursday morning and this tour is limited to the first 25 individuals who sign up. Contact the OLC officer for details.
