THE ASCENSION OF OUR LORD
 
Forty days after Easter the Church celebrates the Ascension of our Lord into heaven. This year the special service of celebration will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.  
We will dedicate the New Organ at the beginning of the Service. There will be special music for the celebration and the guest preacher for that evening will be the Rev. Channing Kearney. Followed by a Missional Balloon Launch and Ice Cream Fellowship.
Come and join us!
JOY” PICNIC - The “JOY” (Just Older Youth) group will be having their picnic on Sunday, June 23 at 12:30pm. There will be food and BINGO…

HELPING HANDS MINISTRY of St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School is intended to provide critical emergency financial support. Please contact one of the Pastors if such support is needed. Contributions to this ministry are also welcome. 
MILITARY OUTREACH USA, Please consider helping the Board of Evangelism & Parish Services fill the needs for Veterans Exiting Homelessness. This will begin on Sunday, May 26 and run thru November 11. More details to come.
NEW MEMBER SHEPHERDS— HELP WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS  On Sunday, June 9, we will be hosting a new member welcome brunch for 10 families at 9:30am in Krueger Hall. We need 10 volunteers. Please prayerfully consider being a part of this evangelism ministry. Please call the church office or sign the sheet on the church office counter to volunteer. Thanks.
ENDOWMENT FUND - On Tuesday, June 18, Tim Kolschowsky will be holding an informational meeting for the congregation to come and hear what the LCMS Foundation and Thrivent can do in support of our Endowment Fund. The meeting will begin at 6:00pm with LCMS giving their presentation and at 6:30pm Thrivent will give their presentation. All are welcome to come and hear what each group can offer then provide feedback. 
All information and congregational feedback will be taken to the Board of Stewardship and Finance to make a formal recommendation to which group St. Matthew will go with.
YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS

THE KINGS BRASS - On Thursday, June 27th at 7pm, (during our normal Thursday night service) come hear the exciting sounds of Tim Zimmerman and the King's Brass.  At 6:45pm our own Michael Gagne will give a brief organ recital to highlight some of the exciting sounds of our new organ. This promises to be a fun-filled evening filled with excellent brass and organ music. Children of all ages are encouraged to attend.

BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
SUNDAY
CSI ADULT BIBLE STUDY - Sundays at 9:20 a.m. in the north end of Krueger Hall . We are currently studying, EVERY ONE HIS WITNESS. This study will go thru June 2. 
SUNDAY SCHOOL - The 2019-2020 Sunday School class will begin on Sunday, September 8.
ADULT DISCIPLESHIP CLASS - The next Adult Discipleship Class be in the Fall of 2019. 
THE YOUTH CONFIRMATION MINISTRY
THE YOUTH CONFIRMATION MINISTRY for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders will kick off new classes in August 2019 meeting Sunday Evenings. Pre-Confirmation Classes for 5th graders, will be held Sunday Mornings beginning in September.
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY
No Class on May 26. Watch for upcoming summer events. Classes will resume Fall of 2019.
MONDAY
LCC BIBLE STUDY WITH TIM HETZNER - Remaining Class Dates: 6/3, 6/10, 6/17, 7/1, 8/5, 8/19 “Who is Jesus According to Jesus” Bible Study is held on Monday's at 9:30am & 7:00pm in Luther Hall. Visit  www.LutheranChurchCharities.org  for more information. Classes run through June 2019.

TUESDAY EVENING LADIES BIBLE STUDY - 
Our topic is: “Our Hope & Our Future: A Study of Jeremiah”. We meet on Tuesday evenings at 7:00pm in Luther Hall. All women are invited to join us. Last class will be on Tuesday,  June 4.
THURSDAY
THURSDAY MORNING LADIES’  -  All women are invited to join our Ladies Bible Study which meets on Thursday mornings from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in Luther Hall. This study will continue into June with a new study beginning in July. For more information, contact Deb Kinne @   debkinne@yahoo.com

MEN'S BIBLE STUDY -
 Class will resume in September.

CURRENT WORKSHOP
The Gospel is simple, but the world is complex. How do we share the Good News of Jesus in today’s world? Here at St. Matthew, we want to help you be equipped, to be a more active and effective witness of Jesus by participating in Every One His Witness.
 
You will learn the LASSIE approach to witnessing in specific witnessing contexts.

Running now thru June 2 nd , We have classes scheduled on six consecutive Sundays in Krueger Hall during the Educational Hour. (9:20-10:20am).
ST. MATTHEW MINISTRY NEWS
CHRISTIAN OUTREACH OF LUTHERANS (COOL) -  A food pantry for some of the neediest families in Lake County. Please bring a can of food/box of cereal with you when you worship and place them in Luther Hall. Thanks for helping those in need. May food item: Canned Fruit.
SHARING THE JOY Are you or somebody you know in need of meals? Sharing the Joy ministry of St. Matthew would like to help. Please contact the church office to set up meal deliveries.

Pastor Timothy Kinne and his wife Debra, from St. Matthew Lutheran Church & School, Hawthorn Woods, invite you to join them on a magnificent tour of the Journeys of Paul in Greece, October 5-15, 2019.
2020 EUROPEAN TRIP & OBERAMMERGAU is an 11 Day Classic Classic European Tour (September 20-30, 2020) which will include Budapest, Bratislava, Prague, Nurnberg, Rothenburg, Heidleberg, a Rhine River Cruise, the Neuschwanstein Castle and culminating in Oberammergau for the 2020 production of the Passion Play.

This week our Emerging Skills and Interests were: Preschool in Review. The Number of the Week was "3", and our theme for Show & Share was sharing a favorite color. In Religious Studies, the preschoolers learned about how Jesus knows each of us by name.
We have openings in our 3/4-year-old Preschool class for the 2019-2020 school year. Contact the school office to schedule a tour and register today. We ♥ St. Matthew ECC!
