6th Ward family,

March set a strong tone for the work ahead, and as we move into April, we are building on that momentum with a clear focus on innovation, equity, and community benefit. Across the 6th Ward, we are moving forward with initiatives that reflect both the needs and the vision of our neighborhoods—grounded in progress, safety, and opportunity for all. This is what it means to keep the 6th Ward moving forward, together.

We are seeing innovation take shape through projects like the groundbreaking of K Fresh Foods (8105 S. Halsted), bringing access to quality groceries where it is needed most, and through housing efforts like the Missing Middle initiative in West Chatham. This work in tandem with initiatives like Build Better Together, a citywide effort advancing economic development through quality housing, business growth, job creation, and cultural investment across Chicago’s communities.

I’ve heard clearly that residents want more opportunities to convene, ask questions, and stay informed—and we are creating those spaces, making sure our community is part of the conversation and the progress.

Our commitment to equity remains at the center, through investments in our schools, support for fair wages, and ensuring resources reach the communities that need them most. At the same time, we are focused on delivering real community benefits: safer streets, cleaner blocks, and stronger connections between neighbors. Whether engaging residents ahead of new developments or strengthening our commercial corridors, we are ensuring that growth is intentional, inclusive, and rooted in the well-being of the people who call the 6th Ward home.

As we step into April, I encourage you to be part of that momentum by supporting the 2nd Annual Spend in the Black event on April 4th at 75th and King Drive. An opportunity to drive economic growth and invest directly in our community. Please note that street closures begin today through Sunday, so plan ahead as you prepare for the weekend.

As your Alderman, I remain committed to leading with purpose and making sure every step forward reflects the strength, resilience, and shared vision of the 6th Ward—moving us forward, together.

6th Ward Community Calendar

This year, we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way. Take a look at our 2026 Community Calendar to stay connected and engaged with us throughout the year.

Missing Middle Housing – West Chatham (Simeon Manor)

We welcomed Commissioner Boatright to discuss the Missing Middle Housing Initiative at Simeon Manor in West Chatham. This initiative is designed to bring new, attainable housing options to our community by leveraging city land and resources for modern home construction. It’s a critical step toward neighborhood revitalization, increasing homeownership, and strengthening long-term community stability in the 6th Ward.

Build Better Together Initiative

Through the City’s Build Better Together initiative, we are working to bring inclusive economic development to every neighborhood—including the 6th Ward. This comprehensive strategy focuses on driving investment, creating jobs, and ensuring that growth is equitable and accessible. Our goal is to make sure our community not only benefits from this progress but is positioned to thrive for years to come.

6th Ward School Visits – 2025 Menu Investments

We visited local schools that benefited from funding allocated through the 2025 budget, where investments were made to improve security, facilities, and overall student experience. From upgraded security cameras to enhanced gym floors and sound systems, these improvements ensure that our students have access to safe, high-quality learning environments that support their success.

Spend in the Black Media Outreach

Leading up to the second annual Spend in the Black event, we participated in a series of interviews to help amplify the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses. This initiative is focused on “resurrecting” and circulating the dollar within our community—driving economic activity along 75th Street and creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to thrive. It’s about intentional investment and long-term economic impact.

One Fair Wage Press Conference

We joined community partners at Let’s Eat to Live (5935 W. 63rd St.) alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson to advocate for fair wages and economic equity. This press conference highlighted the importance of ensuring that working families are supported and that economic growth reaches every corner of our community. When we invest in people, we strengthen the entire neighborhood.

Teen Trend Interviews

We had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with Teen Trend, discussing the issues that matter most to our young people. From education to opportunity, these discussions are critical in ensuring youth voices are heard and reflected in the decisions we make. Creating space for dialogue is an important step in building a stronger future for the next generation.

6th Ward Community Wide Meeting

Residents of the 6th Ward are invited to join Alderman William Hall for an upcoming Community Wide Meeting to discuss important neighborhood updates and plans for the Vertical Clearance Improvements project.

This meeting is an opportunity for community members to stay informed, ask questions, and share feedback on initiatives impacting the ward.

Englewood School Zone Improvements Coming Summer 2026

We’re continuing to invest in the safety of our students, families, and neighbors. This summer, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin school zone safety improvements throughout Englewood, including areas near Barbara Sizemore Academy, Mays Academy, Parker Community Academy, and Englewood STEM High School.

These upgrades will include enhanced pedestrian crossings, new 20 mph safety signage, protected bike lanes, and roadway improvements along S. Stewart Avenue to help reduce crossing distances and encourage safer driving speeds.

This project is about creating safer, more accessible streets for everyone—especially our young people traveling to and from school. Construction is expected to begin during summer break and be completed before the new school year.

We’re committed to moving the 6th Ward forward—together—by prioritizing safety and investing in our community’s future.
