November in the 6th Ward was filled with moments of connection, celebration, and care. Each event brought our community closer, proving that when we come together, we create something truly special.
On November 21st, Job seekers met with potential employers at the Hope and Career Fair hosted at Tuley Park. The room was filled with optimism as 16 attendees engaged with 19 vendors, eager to find opportunities and new beginnings. The conversations sparked a sense of purpose for all involved.
November 22nd was a day of gratitude as the 6th Ward hosted Veterans Appreciation Day. At the Ward office, veterans are greeted warmly and celebrated for their service. With the support of the Rush Road Home Program, Veterans Affairs, and Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County, 34 veterans left with gift cards, but more importantly, with the knowledge that their sacrifices were deeply appreciated.
As Thanksgiving approached, the Coat & Turkey Drive at Lafayette Plaza on November 26th brought warmth to both hearts and homes. Families browsed through tables of cozy coats, scarves, hats, and gloves, with 23 families selecting winter essentials. Meanwhile, 29 turkeys and food boxes found their way into the hands of residents, ensuring a holiday meal filled with love and gratitude.
We ended the month with a joyful Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 30th at 75th and Langley. The Chatham Business Association brought smiles with holiday gifts and a hot cocoa bar featuring treats from Kilwins. The Kindness Campaign opened its doors as a warming station, with a fun Santa letter-writing corner and a toy giveaway. 21 families came together to watch the tree light up, as the season of giving begins.
These moments remind us that the heart of the 6th Ward is its people. Whether sharing resources, honoring heroes, or spreading holiday cheer, we continue to show that together, we are stronger.
