As we return from our Fourth of July celebrations, I wanted to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones. I hope your holiday was filled with joy, togetherness, and memorable moments with family and friends.

Now for some community updates. We're excited to share some 6th Ward updates from June, highlighting our community's achievements!
In June, we answered 365 calls to our office, providing essential resources, offering a helping hand, and connecting residents with necessary departments. We also installed 5 Residential Disabled Parking Signs, improving accessibility in our neighborhood. Thank you for your help in embodying the true spirit of community!

Yoga Saturday Recap
On June 22nd, we hosted a successful community yoga session at Hamilton Park, attracting participants of all ages and skill levels.
Our instructor, Coach Monet, led the group through a series of poses and breathing exercises.
The beautiful weather enhanced the experience, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
Thank you to everyone who attended and made this event a success. We look forward to seeing you at our next community yoga session!

Emergency Assistance Center for Crime Victims |
The Chicago Police Department's Crime Victim Services Program is setting up an Emergency Assistance Center (EAC) in response to the recent violent incidents. All victims, survivors, witnesses, family members, and residents needing support, resources, and services are welcome.

Become a Vendor at the 6th Ward Farmers Market! |
We are excited to invite vendors to join us this summer at the Mamie Till-Mobley Farmers Market. Last month's market was a great success, with three vendors selling out.
The Farmers Market will be held at 85th & Calumet from 9 am to 12 noon on the following Saturdays: July 20th, August 17th, and September 21st.
We are interested in vendors offering:
- Specialized items
- Fresh produce
- Floral arrangements
- Food trucks
- Teen entrepreneurs
It is FREE to be a vendor, so if you have unique products or services and would like to participate, we want to hear from you!

Dance in the Parks at Nat King Cole Park |
Dance in the Parks celebrates its 16th summer with FREE professional dance concerts, and one of the concerts is coming to Nat King Cole Park.
The performances feature contemporary, modern, and jazz dance by professional artists.
Youth Performance Partners from park communities will join, including dancers from Chicago Elite and the Joffrey Ballet's Exelon Strobel Dancers.
Enjoy a FREE evening of dance with friends and family. Bring chairs and blankets. Performances start at 6:30 pm.

Every year, the Jumping Jack Program brings joy to children all over Chicago with its inflatable playground. And the best part? It's completely FREE! Running from May 25 to September 1, 2024, this is an event you don't want to miss.
Before you get jumping, here's what you need to know:
Application Information:
- Limited to residential block parties within Chicago.

Registration opens on April 15 at 8 am.
- Make sure to fill out the application correctly to receive confirmation.
- Requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
General Rules:
- Inflatables are for residential block parties only.
- One inflatable is provided per approved block party for four hours.
- Set-up and pick-up times are fixed between 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 6 pm.
- Inflatables must be set up on pavement, asphalt, or concrete.
Be sure to review all the details before applying. Get ready for a summer of fun with the Jumping Jack Program!

2024 Labor Law: Minimum Wage
On July 1, 2024, the city announced that Chicago's minimum wage will be $16.20
Minimum wage for subsidized youth employment programs, and subsidized transitional employment programs, will be $15.00
Minimum wage will no longer be tiered for large and small businesses

2024 Labor Law Update: Paid Leave and Paid Sick Leave
On July 1, 2024, the city announced that the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance guarantees up to 5 days of paid leave and 5 days of paid sick leave for all of Chicago’s employees who work at least 80 hours within any 120-day period.

Youth & Education Opportunites | |
CPS Summer Meal Sites for Children
CPS offers free meals during summer break for all children up to age 18. No ID is required, but children must be present and meals must be consumed onsite. There are two types of meal locations:
- LunchStop sites: Serve free lunch outdoors at select schools from June 24 to August 9, Monday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- In-school meal sites: Serve free meals indoors at schools open for summer programs. Meal times vary.

Youth Leader Activation Summit
The Youth Leader Activation Summit empowers Chicago's youth (ages 14-19) to positively impact their communities. Attendees will hear from youth leaders, engage with local organizations, and connect with peers. The event focuses on:
- Promoting collaboration and networking
- Recognizing youth making positive impacts
- Connecting youth to resources, councils, initiatives, education, and career opportunities
Lunch, snacks, and refreshments will be provided!
Registration is now OPEN for the Youth Leader Activation Summit, hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Commission, on Saturday, August 3, at UIC (750 S. Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60607).
